The aircraft was towed after landing with hydraulic failures. No injuries were reported.
Flight from Miami completed its route normally
American Airlines Flight 837, which departed from Miami International Airport at 21:12 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24, landed safely in Havana at 2:04 p.m. after a bird strike during the final approach phase.
According to official information, the bird collided with the front landing gear of the aircraft—registration N9227NN—at an altitude of approximately 300 feet, in areas outside the perimeter of José Martí International Airport.
Failure in the directional control forced the trailer
The crew completed the landing without incident, but while attempting to clear the runway, the aircraft experienced directional control failures. Given this situation, the pilots shut down the engines and requested ground assistance for towing.
The airport's emergency response team activated the planned protocol, including the safe evacuation of all passengers, who were unharmed and treated by specialized personnel.
Damage to the front hydraulic system
The impact with the bird caused a fracture in one of the hydraulic system lines that controls the front landing gear. Cuban technicians and airline representatives are working together to assess the damage and coordinate the necessary repairs.
Airline maintains contact with Cuban authorities
American Airlines has not yet issued a public statement on the incident, but remains in communication with Cuban authorities to ensure the safety and well-being of passengers.
The flight was scheduled to depart at 12:25 p.m. from gate D21 in Miami and arrive in Havana at 1:50 p.m. It finally landed at 2:04 p.m. at Terminal 3, gate B12 of Havana Airport.
