Cuba continues to suffer prolonged blackouts due to energy shortages, with an estimated impact of 1570 MW.

The energy crisis in Cuba continues. Power was out all day yesterday and into the early hours of Thursday, April 10. The situation worsened due to unexpected failures at the Energas Jaruco gas plant, which caused a greater impact than planned.

New outage in Jaruco worsens outages

The largest impact recorded was 1681 MW at 20:20 p.m. on Wednesday, coinciding with peak consumption. The outage in Jaruco took key power generation units offline, completely disrupting official planning.

Despite efforts to add clean energy to the system, solar photovoltaic parks only managed to contribute 620 MWh. This amount is insufficient compared to national consumption, which continues to far exceed actual availability.

Current SEN data

As of Thursday morning, the National Electric System's generating capacity is at 1900 MW, while demand is at 2450 MW. The current deficit is 628 MW, with a similar impact on electricity service.

An even more complicated afternoon is expected.

By midday, authorities forecast a disruption of approximately 950 MW. However, the most critical scenario will arrive at dusk. During peak hours, demand is estimated at 3400 MW, compared to a stagnant availability of 1900 MW, which would generate a deficit of 1500 MW and outages of approximately 1570 MW.
