In addition, the installation of a new 200 MW generation block, financed by a loan granted by the Russian Government.

The meeting took place within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), where both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the energy sector.

The Russian government had already expressed the strategic importance of restoring the National Electric System (SEN) in Cuba.

This was reiterated this week by Viktor Koronelli, Russian ambassador to Havana, during a visit to the province of Mayabeque.

Russia also proposed promoting the training of Cuban specialists in areas related to the fuel and energy complex, an element considered key to the project's success.

This new step in the energy alliance between Cuba and Russia reflects not only significant financial support, but also a common interest in applying advanced technological solutions that guarantee a more stable and efficient electricity supply on the island, amidst a endless blackout crisis in Cuba.

  1. Since World War II, the Russians have had experience moving entire factories long distances from one location to another.

I believe it would be appropriate to bring the main components of thermoelectric plants to Cuba and assemble them quickly. This would be done in strategic cooperation with major Cuban steel and mechanical factories, such as the Santa Clara Mechanical Plant, the Paco Cabrera plant in Tunas, Antillana de Acero, and so on.

I agree that $60 million is too little for the consumption and inputs of our electricity-generating industry.

    Thank you.

  2. The same news year after year, "Russia approves aid of I don't know how many millions for fuel and parts for thermoelectric plants blah blah blah" and nothing, it's all a smokescreen.

  3. We need what has been said in the words of the president of Russia and Cuba to be fulfilled and not be owed to any particular MIPIME as occurs in many cases.

  4. That aid, by no means, will be able to resolve the current generation deficit. What's hitting the hardest right now is oil. According to the UNE More than 800 MW (almost the capacity of six thermal power plants) are unused due to a lack of fuel. It's clear that repairs won't solve the problem, and if more thermal units are brought in, they won't be able to operate without oil. The government should stop building for tourism and guarantee the energy mix to stop the people's suffering and ensure the functioning of the Cuban economy.
