This weekend, visiting authorities from the Asian country delivered a 10-ton donation of Vietnamese rice, while also announcing a similar donation would be forthcoming to alleviate the island's food crisis.
According to press reports, Vietnamese Deputy Finance Minister Le Tan Can delivered the 10.000-ton donation of rice to Cuban authorities, adding that the island would soon receive another 1500 tons of the same food.
Currently, containers of the cereal, vital to the Cuban diet, are being unloaded in the Mariel area, more than 40 km from the Cuban capital. How will the product be distributed? According to the website official Cubadebate, it will then be distributed in Cuban warehouses, through the Mincin (Domestic Trade) although they did not specify whether it would be free or at some "symbolic" cost.
"Vietnam will continue to support Cuba in rice production, contributing to the Caribbean country's food security... it is a gesture of gratitude and solidarity with the Cuban people," the Vietnamese leader said of the rice donation to Cuba.
Vietnamese rice donation to Cuba: details
For its part, the Mincin officialDeputy Minister Aracelys Cardoso noted that “once again, Vietnam is reaching out to us in difficult times.”
"This rice donation demonstrates the special nature of the ties between Cuba and Vietnam, as this grain is an essential part of the Cuban people's diet," he added.
Vietnam is the main supplier of rice to Cuba, where this grain is a staple food and average consumption exceeds 60 kilograms per person per year. However, given the distribution crisis for basic food basket products, rice is one of the products that frequently disappears and arrives later on Cuban tables.
While this happens, its price rises on the Cuban black market and in foreign currency stores.

If it is true that we should be grateful to the Vietnamese people, have you stopped to think about what that people have to give after the US invasion in the 70s? Reflect on it.
I hope they don't charge the population for this product since it is a donation made by a friendly country. Our people are going through hunger due to the high prices of the products and the low wages they receive for their work.

A country that lives on donations is not a country
Please, everything ❤️, the word itself indicates it, it is a donation. A few years ago when the tornado affected the municipality of Regla, they had donated mattresses and they were going to charge for it at all costs, BE CAREFUL there is a resolution for this type of protocol, it is a donation, I am just giving my opinion, thank you.
Very good, just need better control over the deviations
All the help in the world please, we can't go on any longer. Our people are suffering with this inflation... high cost of living... people who have fought for this revolution... they even go through garbage dumps looking for food. I can't go on any longer... what we are experiencing is very sad. 😰😰😰😰
Excellent news. Let's hope the people aren't charged for this vital product on the Cuban table. The Word says so, it's a donation. We just want to thank that great country for its help and hope it reaches more people as soon as possible. Just say when it will be distributed, since you haven't said yet. Kind regards to all.
I understand that if it is donated, the people should not be charged because there are many vulnerable people and as the word says, it is donated, given away.
Well, I don't doubt it because donations come in here and many buy them, shamelessness on the front page
Please donate edible rice, because it is truly the worst rice that has entered the country.
Good morning
We hope the population is not charged $155 CUP The rice that has been donated by Vietnam and do not impose a symbolic price on it, since the word and the gesture say it all. DONATION
Thank you very much
