Cuba: Border Guards report the discovery of two boats on the north coast

The Cuban Ministry of the Interior's (Minint) Border Guard Troops reported this Thursday the discovery of two unidentified vessels at different points along Cuba's northern coast, near the province of Matanzas.

Both cases were reported by the Captaincy of the Port of Cárdenas, in compliance with the provisions of Decree No. 317, regulations of the Law of Maritime, River and Lake Navigation, expanded in an official note published in cubadebate and media aligned with the government.

According to the report, the first vessel was found on December 21, 2024, in the area known as Canal de los Barcos, Martí municipality. It is a white, plastic-hulled boat, 3 meters long, 1.50 meters wide, and 0.40 meters deep.

On one of its interior bands, the name DABID DIEHEL and the number 989-640-4107 are handwritten, possible clues to its identification.

Most of these vessels are used for human trafficking of migrants bound for the United States or for international drug trafficking, and are left adrift off the Cuban coast.

Second boat found by Cuban Border Guard

The second discovery of boats in Cuba by border guards occurred on January 24, 2025 in the vicinity of the Hotel Sireny Tropic, in the municipality of Cárdenas, in the resort of Varadero, the main tourist destination in the country.

The boat, made in carbon fiber and red, measures 2.90 meters long, 1.29 meters wide and 0.65 meters deep. It has Yamaha outboard motor 9.9 horsepower and two cylinders, although it has no other visible identification elements.

The Port Captaincy of Cárdenas called on natural or legal persons with possible rights over these vessels to appear at its legal headquarters, located at Céspedes Final Street, Cárdenas municipality, within 30 calendar days from the publication of this note.
