Official media reported on Sunday night the derailment of the train in Cuba Holguín-Havana, which so far has not left any serious injuries.
The Extra Train 16, in charge of transporting passengers on the Holguín-Havana route, suffered a derailment this April 13 at 6:20 pm in the town of Balcón, Las Tunas province, while traveling on the Central Line, specified in its profile of Facebook the official reporter Lázaro Manuel Alonso.
The incident damaged a wheel of the locomotive, and no personal injuries were reported among the passengers, apart from a few scares and minor bruises, according to social media reports.
According to authorities, no visible damage was observed to the structure of the cars or the locomotive.
Last night, train crews kept passengers informed while the necessary work was carried out to restore train service in the area.
Train Derailment in Cuba
By late Sunday, according to the reporter, the Havana-Holguín train had been put back on track, and railway specialists were working hard to get traffic back to normal as quickly as possible.
In addition, an investigative committee was on site to determine the causes of the train derailment in Cuba, as part of the protocol established by the Ministry of Transport and Railways on the island.
Executives from Cuban Railways, the Cuban Railway Transport Administration, local government authorities, and members of the National Police (PNR) and the Ministry of National Defense (MININT) were present at the scene.
Regarding the incident, which fortunately resulted in no loss of life, the authorities apologized to passengers for the inconvenience caused and assured the continuity of these and other routes paralyzed following the Cuban Railways accident.
