Although the vaccination rate is advancing considerably in most countries, some nations are still extending restrictions for citizens of certain countries. Therefore, the Swedish Embassy in Cuba announced the extension of entry restrictions to its territory from outside the European Union (EU) through its social media.

The diplomatic headquarters explained that The temporary ban on entry to Sweden was renewed until January 31, 2022. The entry ban to Sweden remains in effect until that date for travelers from non-EU/EEA countries. This, of course, includes Cubans, who will continue to be excluded from obtaining tourist visas, if they are interested.

The Embassy adds that the Swedish Border Police is the authority responsible for enforcing these rules and prohibitions. According to the police website, an entry ban and a mandatory negative PCR test are in place for travel to Sweden from non-EU countries until at least the aforementioned date.

In addition, the Swedish government has decided that foreign citizens entering Sweden from outside the Nordic region must have tested negative for PCR, be vaccinated against the disease, or have recovered.cupthe same. The requirements depend on the country from which the foreigner is traveling.

They warn that only vaccination certificates from a limited number of countries will be accepted, not including Cuba. Only those approved by the WHO will be accepted. Sweden will always apply entry regulations based on the last country entered from, even if that country was only a transit country.

EXEMPTIONS FROM THE ENTRY BAN

As a general rule, foreigners traveling to Sweden from a non-European country will be denied entry and turned away. Exemptions exist for a select number of identified non-EU countries.

For example, persons with a residence permit or right to reside in Sweden or another European state, holders of a national visa (class D) for Sweden or a national visa (class D) valid for more than three months in another EEA country, Andorra, Monaco, San Marino, Switzerland or the Vatican.

Also, people with a documented family connection, such as a spouse, civil partner, partner, or child under 18, with a Swedish citizen, a citizen of the European Area, or a foreigner with a residence permit, residence status, or national visa (class D) in Sweden or any other EU country.

Residents of the following countries are exempt from the entry ban and may enter Sweden if they can document residency in the country (not just citizenship) and have a negative PCR test no more than 72 hours old or an EU vaccination certificate.

These are: Australia, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Hong Kong, Jordan, Kuwait, Macau, New Zealand, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Uruguay.
