U.S. government officials have updated their travel advisory for Cuba, with increased warnings about prolonged power outages and an increase in street crime, including cell phone thefts and nighttime robberies.

El United States Department of State updated its travel warning system during the first half of May 2025, classifying to Cuba at Level 2, which implies that American citizens must exercise greater caution when visiting the island.

According to the official advisory, travelers face risks associated with petty crimes such as pickpocketing, theft, and purse snatching, especially in tourist and urban areas.
