Cuban officials are traveling to Spain, specifically to Córdoba, Andalusia, with the goal of "copying" a street vendor model, according to local and Spanish press reports this week.

In this regard, the agency Europa Press, explained that the Vice President and Coordinator of Objectives and Programs of the Government of Havana, Jorge Luis Villa Miranda, visited the Arenal Market in Córdoba with the aim of "gaining an in-depth understanding of the human, organizational, and commercial reality of this weekly commercial event, and gathering ideas and recommendations that will contribute to improving the street markets in the Cuban capital."

Meanwhile, the organizers of this trade fair added that the Havana official had "experienced the market's organizational system and its human aspects in depth," and was ready to "copy and develop" a similar model in Havana's markets.

Villa Miranda, the Cuban executive, said his government wants to "remodel and reorganize" the markets in the Cuban capital given that "self-employment in these spaces is on the rise and represents a significant economic opportunity."

The Spanish counterpart added that she hopes this meeting will mark the island and that "the achievements of Cordoba street vendors will serve as an example for their work in Cuba."
