Information for Cuban retirees: "Sooner or later, the money always arrives."

Officials assure us that "sooner or later" the money from Cuban retirees and social workers always "reaches their pockets," although they admit that this doesn't happen like it used to, without rushing or "fainting in lines." Do you agree?

Through official media, the Cuban government assured that the monthly payment of retirement and Social Security is a "conquest of the Revolution" and that no one can say that "this assistance was lacking as reward for years of effort dedicated to the construction of the new Cuban society."

Despite this right, the government admits that there are "uncertainties and inconveniences" among Cuban retirees and those receiving assistance who are not receiving their pension funds in a timely manner. This is despite the fact that the elderly are a vulnerable group, which often includes people with mental or physical disabilities.

"It is true, and it must be said, that sooner or later, retirement money and government assistance have always reached the pockets of pensioners," says the official media outlet. Radio Florida, in an article that was re-shared on social media by the country's main banking and financial institutions.

Money for Cuban retirees

According to them, in "recent months" (just in recent months?) it has become more difficult for retirees in Cuba to access their pensions "with peace of mind and order" due to "the process of banking and digitalization of Cuban society, with the emergence of virtual payrolls, magnetic cards, and cash-dispensing ATMs."

"Many of our retirees still remember and yearn for the days when their monthly pocket money arrived conveniently via messenger, or they got it at the local grocery store without anxiety, fuss, or despair," they added.

But who do the ruling party blame? First, they blame the families, who, they claim, should help the elderly collect this pension.

All this while knowing that constant misinformation, coupled with mistreatment and indifference in many places, turns the simple act of collecting a pension into an odyssey for many Cuban retirees.

They accept that "some faint from the long wait, others waste the entire day waiting for money that never arrives, trapped by power outages, or stuck for a turn in endless lines that start in the early morning or even the day before."

Currently a minimum pension in Cuba is 1528 Cuban pesos, which is equivalent to, according to the informal market, about 4 dollars.

  1. I am a widow and what they pay me is 1200 pesos and sometimes I have to spend an entire morning and when the power goes out and that doesn't even give me enough for a liter of oil

  2. As a worker for over 30 years, one has the right to receive their retirement money in a timely manner, since each retiree has more than earned so much work time.

  3. Retirement is not a benefit from the state or anyone else... it is the result of the accumulation of a portion of the salary that is not earned during the entire employment period of each worker, so it is the retiree's money and not a benefit...

  4. Retired, it seems that when you retire you are a burden, they forget the years you contributed, they forget if they paid you according to current prices, hours of blackouts at the bank to get your money, sometimes you have to go several times to the bank, many of them you see getting money in the streets and even in the garbage dumps, but this does not matter to anyone, nor do they think that many of them do not even have enough for breakfast and that many have to go back to work to have a little more money, they do not have the right to a restful retirement

    • Such a comment about pensioners and retirees' pay is disrespectful. We need to think about it before we go and collect the few pesos we get paid, which isn't even enough to have a frize. Be more aware of how little we get paid.
