Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel himself announced a new Russian destination for Cubans without visas and with direct flights coming soon. Details below.
Cuba will soon add a new international destination for its citizens without the need for a visa: specifically San Petersburgo, one of the most emblematic cities in Russia.
The opening of direct flights between Havana and St. Petersburg, announced after the meeting between the Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel and the Russian governor Alexander Beglov, will mark a key milestone in strengthening bilateral relations and tourism between the two countries, they detailed in the media Press
Currently there are regular direct flights between Havana, Varadero, Cayo Coco and Russian cities such as Moscow, operated by airlines such as Nordwind Airlines y Rossiya Airlines, which has allowed us to maintain a stable air connection even in times of global crisis.
The new route to St. Petersburg will further expand air connectivity, facilitating the flow of travelers in both directions, especially from Russia to the Cuban capital. This is something Cuban tourism authorities eagerly await, as they seek to strengthen the flow from there.
Díaz-Canel also highlighted the importance of increasing tourism exchanges with Russia, a priority for the Cuban government.
Visa-free and with direct flights for Cubans
Russian tourists have been crucial to the sector in recent years, and new air routes like this one are expected to further encourage their arrival.
The relaxation of the use of the Russian ruble in Cuban banks—allowing commercial and tourist transactions in the Russian currency—is another clear sign of interest in attracting more visitors from that country.
This measure facilitates transactions and generates confidence among Russian tourists who choose Cuba as a destination, although several have also criticized Cuban hotels on social media.
For Cubans, Russia represents one of the few important destinations that does not require an entry visa.
This advantage, combined with the upcoming direct flights and strong diplomatic relations, makes St. Petersburg an excellent option for shopping trips or simply as a tourist for less than 90 days without a visa and with direct flights from Cuba.
In the past, 2021, It was the airline Azur Air that connected the Cubans with this destination in Russia.
