USCIS announces updated certificate for applying for American citizenship

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) published this April 30 a update of Form N-600, Application for Certificate of American CitizenshipHe also updated other visa and residency documents. More details to follow.

This new version, with edition date 01/20/25, will be in force from May 30th 2025, being the only edition accepted since that date, according to the official note. 

Until May 29th 2025, applicants will still be able to use the previous edition of the form, dated 04/01/24.

"Remember that the edition date is located at the bottom of the form and its instructions. We recommend checking the version of the form before submitting it to avoid delays or rejections. For more details, visit our official Form Updates page," they said.

These documents weren't the only ones requested by USCIS; it also announced updates to several of its key forms.

Beginning May 28 and 29 2025, only the most recent editions of these forms will be accepted. Until then, the previous versions will remain valid.

Below are the updated forms and their issue dates: Form N-565 – Application for Replacement of Naturalization/Citizenship Document. New edition: 02/27/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025Previous edition accepted until then: 04/01/24.

Form I-589 – Application for Asylum and Suspension of Removal. New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025. Previous edition accepted: 03/01/23. Form I-821 – Application for Temporary Protected Status (TPS). New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025Previous edition accepted: 04/01/24

Also Form I-90 – Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card (Green Card). New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025. Previous edition accepted: 04/01/24. Form I-765 – Application for Employment Authorization. New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025. Previous edition accepted: 08/28/24.

Another one that will change is Form I-821D – Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 29 2025. Previous edition accepted: 04/01/24. Form I-360 – Petition for Amerasian, Widow(er), or Special Immigrant. New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 28 2025Previous edition accepted: 04/01/24

Likewise, Form I-800A – Application for a Determination of Suitability to Adopt a Child from a Convention Country. New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 28 2025. Previous edition accepted: 10/17/24. Form I-800 – Petition to Classify a Convention Adoptee as an Immediate Relative. New edition: 01/20/25. Mandatory from: May 28 2025. Previous edition accepted: 10/17/24.

USCIS reminds applicants that it is essential to verify that they are using the correct version of each form.
