02Yes, you read that right. Direct flights to London from Havana's José Martí International Airport via local airline Cubana de Aviación. At least that's what Cuban Tourism Minister Juan Carlos García said in England in an interview with Prensa Latina.
"Among our priorities for the coming weeks is finding that direct flight, and we hope to reach an agreement with Cubana (Aviación)," he pointed García addressed the press from England, where he is promoting tourism.
According to this report, the national airline could "shortly" reactivate direct connections to London, the English capital, and "suddenly" improve the connection problems facing British tourists to Cuba. They stated that this is currently limiting the arrival of more British tourists to the island.
Flights from London to Havana
The Minister, who promotes Cuba as a destination, noted that currently the only direct flight between Cuba and England is through TUI, which connects the cities of Manchester and Varadero. These TUI flights operate twice a week.
"Obviously, they prioritize their customers and leave very little room for the rest, who have to fly through a third country," said the executive of this sector in Cuba. However, he affirmed that there is some "growth" in British tourists to Cuba this year.
"British tourists have the advantage of traveling at any time of the year, so it's essential to increase this market share in Cuba," García added on the subject.
"We're attractive to the English because we offer not only sun and sand, but also history, culture, nature, and heritage, which makes the experience more complementary and richer," he concluded.
How will Cubana de Aviación do this? The truth is that what the Minister thinks and wants is one thing, and the conditions of the island's only airline are quite another. So far, Cubana only offers international flights to Madrid, Spain, and regarding domestic flights, it only reactivated its only connection to Girona, on the Isle of Youth, a few days ago. We'll see how this progresses.

Wow, that's great, but I see a difficult situation with Cuban aviation. London should return to its wonderful Virgin Atlantis, and the Minister of Tourism should really explain what happened to the British airline; he knows it well...
