Tropical storm Andrea forms in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Cuban Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) issued this June 24 2025 el Tropical Cyclone Advisory No. 1, reporting the formation of Tropical Storm Andrea in open waters of the Atlantic.
This is the first named cyclone organism of the current season, officially marking the start of a new phase of meteorological monitoring in the region.
According to experts at the Forecast Center, the system evolved from a low-pressure area located in the central Atlantic Ocean, which has gained organization and cyclonic structure in recent hours.
Location, speed and intensity of the system
At 11:00 a.m., the system's center was located at 36.6 degrees North latitude and 48.9 degrees West longitude, approximately 1.940 kilometers west of the Azores. Andrea has a minimum central pressure of 1014 hectopascals and maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts. It is moving east-northeastward at 28 kilometers per hour.
Little variation expected in the next few hours
Over the next 12 to 24 hours, the system will show little change in intensity and forward speed as it gradually weakens. Forecast models indicate it will continue to move east-northeastward, gradually moving away from any landmass.
It is only of interest for navigation
Although its development is being closely monitored by meteorological services, Andrea poses no threat to Cuba. Cuban authorities have clarified that the system is of interest only to navigation in the area where it is moving. No impact is expected on national territory or nearby areas.
The next tropical cyclone warning will be issued at 6:00 p.m. this same day.unes.
