In the province of Sancti Spíritus alone, more than 4.000 international shipments are pending delivery, causing inconvenience to the population and financial losses for the territorial delegation.

Carlos Ovey Gotera González, the company's provincial director, explained to official media that the delays are due to multiple factors: a lack of fuel, transportation problems, and a shortage of spare parts. These obstacles have prevented the company from meeting established delivery deadlines.

The current operating system relies on shipments from Havana, where the national sorting center is located. However, fuel availability has drastically limited shipments, lengthening wait times. "We take advantage of every opportunity to move packages, but the shortage of resources affects us deeply," Gotera González acknowledged.

A profitable business that loses efficiency

International parcel delivery is considered the most profitable service within Correos de Cuba. In 2024, the Sancti Spíritus-based company generated revenues of over 28 million pesos from this service. However, it stopped receiving more than 38.000 packages, resulting in losses valued at approximately six million pesos.

Despite the crisis, the delegation has sought solutions through partnerships with non-state actors, transportation contracts with third parties, and the opening of new printing centers. These measures have allowed revenue to exceed operating expenses, although the situation remains tense.

Reports of theft and loss persist

Adding to the delays are frequent complaints about theft, alterations to contents, and loss. José Valido, the organization's Director of Organizational Communications, admitted that these incidents are reported both within and outside the company, involving national and foreign operators, as well as Customs.

In 2024, 167 claims for theft were filed, of which 61 were declared justified. There were also reports of loss and theft. The trend continues. 2025, with an increase in reports in the first quarter of the year.

Correos de Cuba insists that, although some of these problems are beyond its control, it does not disavow its responsibility to its users.

  1. What a huge lack of respect. There you have all the information and phone number of the person each package is addressed to. Please inform each person to pick it up at the warehouse where you are located if they don't have transportation. Solutions, not so many excuses.

  2. But if they call the owners of the packages, people go and look for it, but they don't even do that, because each package has the name, phone number and address of the person who receives it, for God's sake!!

  3. I went to send two envelopes for international shipments (Central America) to the DHL office, which was supposedly located on the ground floor of the Ministry of Communications in Havana. To my surprise, DHL no longer operates in Cuba, and I had to send them by certified international mail. But the colleague who was preparing the shipments for me told me I'd have to wait 30 to 40 days for the documents to arrive, not including the travel time after departure. Of course, I decided against sending them due to uncertainty about the weather in the interior of the country, without any explanation as to why the delay was so long. I left disappointed by the inefficiency of a service that shows no capacity to perform such an important service for the population.
