Significant increase in exchange rates in Cuba today: the euro is now close to 400 Cuban pesos and the dollar is also rising.

Cuba's informal currency market is experiencing a significant rise in major foreign currencies amid an unprecedented economic crisis marked by shortages of basic goods, prolonged blackouts, and rampant inflation that continues to erode the purchasing power of average Cubans.

The euro has reached 397 Cuban pesos (CUP) in the informal market, with an increase of 2 pesos compared to the previous day.

The US dollar (USD), for its part, rises 1 peso and stands at 374 CUPThese figures reflect a sustained rise in the price of foreign currency, driven by both growing demand and the structural shortage of freely convertible currency.

The Freely Convertible Currency (MLC), which had remained stable in recent days, remains at 260 CUP, with no changes on this day.

The Canadian dollar (CAD) also remains unchanged in 240 CUP, while the use of Zelle, increasingly common as a means of sending remittances and payments from abroad, shows a sharp rise to 375 CUP, with an increase of 9 pesos.

This scenario coincides with growing rumors of an upcoming price adjustment in the state sector—especially in transportation and basic services—and with the increase in informal economic repression, including confiscations and sanctions against resellers and frequent users of foreign currency without banking services.

The climate of uncertainty has led many Cubans to try to protect their savings by buying dollars or euros, further pushing up their value.

Regarding the international market, although the US dollar has shown some weakness against the euro in recent trading sessions, this trend has not translated into relief for the Cuban market.
