Tickets are currently starting at $300 on American Airlines.
Prices for commercial flights between Miami and Havana have seen a significant reduction, with promotional fares starting at $305 for round-trip flights, according to Google Flights. The offer applies to flights operated by American Airlines during the month of June.
This trend also coincides with the low international demand for the United States, according to reports from several airlines, especially European ones.
Basic rates, but with hidden charges
Although the base price is very low compared to other options, travelers should keep in mind that it does not include checked baggage. This is essential in Cuba, as you must bring almost everything for a trip to the island, given the widespread shortages experienced on the island.
For example, America Airlines charges $35 for the first bag in basic economy class and up to $150 for the second if paid for online. Only passengers in business class or higher are exempt from this additional charge.
In addition, American Airlines adds a mandatory $25 surcharge per passenger to cover the medical insurance required by Cuban authorities. This means the actual cost of the trip can easily rise to over $400 if luggage and other services are added.
What does the rate include?
Each passenger is entitled to one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item, which must fit under the seat in front of them. Generators are not permitted in the cabin, but may be transported in the hold if they are in their original packaging.
The flight between Miami and Havana lasts between 45 minutes and one hour, depending on flight conditions. The route covers 380 kilometers at an average altitude of 21.000 to 24.000 feet. It is generally operated on a Boeing 737-800, although the model may vary.
Up to 42 weekly flights
American Airlines maintains a high frequency on this route with six daily flights. This represents 6 weekly flights available every day, allowing passengers to find convenient travel times.
Commercial flights, such as those operated by American Airlines, follow fixed schedules and are open to the general public. Charter flights, on the other hand, are typically organized for specific groups and allow for larger amounts of luggage, albeit at a higher cost and with less flexibility for changes.
New measures at US airports
As part of a modernization of airport controls, Customs and Border Protection has launched a remote baggage screening system. This will allow those making stops at U.S. airports to avoid having to re-collect or check their bags unless a risk is detected.
The system is initially being tested on American Airlines flights between Sydney and Los Angeles and will be expanded to other routes in the near future.
Real ID will be mandatory from May
Beginning May 7, all passengers boarding domestic flights within the United States must present a Real ID-compliant driver's license or identification card. Otherwise, they may use a passport or other federally approved document.

Tickets to Carcel Island shouldn't cost more than $50, including luggage. Cuba is just around the corner, and getting there is a hassle.
