Information from the Ministry of National Statistics and Census (MINCIN): Rice, oil, cigarettes, milk, and other basic food products in Cuba

Distribution of rice, oil, and cigarettes begins in several Cuban provinces, while milk is in short supply due to power outages.

Backordered products from March, April, and May are being delivered. In Sancti Spíritus, milk distribution was interrupted after an electrical surge affected production.

Rice distribution in Granma and Cienfuegos

In Granma province, according to data from the Gecog channel, the distribution of 3 pounds of rice per person continues to complete the 7 pounds rationed for March. So far, 653 grocery stores have been supplied, of which 239 are urban and 291 are rural or part of the Turquino Plan.

The municipalities with the greatest progress are Manzanillo (55 urban wineries, 40 rural), Niquero, Bayamo, and Bartolomé Masó. Also included are hard-to-reach areas such as Pilón, Guisa, and Media Luna.

In Cienfuegos, meanwhile, the distribution of 10 pounds of rice per consumer has already begun, corresponding to April (7 lb) and May (3 lb). In addition, oil and, free of charge, four packs of cigarettes and one cigar are being distributed.

Energy outage paralyzes milk production in Sancti Spíritus

A statement issued by the Municipal Commerce Company in Sancti Spíritus reported that last Sunday, an electrical surge struck the city's industrial zone, disrupting the power supply of the Dairy Production Industry.

The incident prevented the pasteurization of the product intended for children, pregnant women, and medical diets, so the stored milk became acidic. ThisuneFluid milk was distributed only to hospitals, but not to the rest of the beneficiary population. The service is expected to be restored on Tuesday, June 10.

Situation by province: Holguín, Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas

In Holguín, 286 stores have reportedly received the March rice, while another 1.075 are still waiting. Raw sugar (April and May), peas, WFP compotes, cigarettes, and donated sardines are also being distributed to children and seniors. The May milk supply has been completed only for children ages 0 to 2. The planned 10 days for the 2 to 6 age group are still pending.

In Santiago de Cuba, powdered milk distribution for children up to 2 years old has begun. These are 10- or 20-day rations, depending on the age group, corresponding to the month of June.

In Las Tunas, the provincial food director confirmed that, following the arrival of a ship in Nuevitas, the transport of rice to complete the March basket has begun in that province, as well as in Camagüey and Ciego de Ávila. The distribution of May beans and June peas also continues.

In municipalities such as Amancio and Puerto Padre, dozens of warehouses are still waiting to receive legumes.

Products still pending and partial deliveries

Reports detail that a large portion of the food has not yet been fully delivered. This includes:

  • Milk for children over 2 years old in several provinces

  • Rice pending since March in more than a thousand Holguin warehouses

  • Peas and beans in areas of Las Tunas

  • Pasta and sardines donation with partial distribution

  • May sugar harvest still to be completed in municipalities such as Moa and Cueto

Despite progress, there is still a perception of delays, instability, and lack of coordination in the delivery of basic products in many areas of the country.

  1. Why is it that in Manzanillo, after we've practically begged for alms with food, they now bring us 3 pounds of rice to complete March? If in other provinces they are already giving rice for April and May, and Granma, where is it? And the peas and beans that were never seen in thousands of stores? And the sugar, we're almost at the end of June and nothing.

  2. In the province of Villa Clara, nothing has been heard about pasta or sardines, just like at the end of the year, when they announced a number of products that ended up as advertisements. Most of the items they were going to distribute were left somewhere and never appeared. They shouldn't make offers to the people, because they won't comply with medical diets here either; it's a disaster. No products are offered.

  3. I need to know on which ship my grandfather Gregorio Rodríguez Roger arrived, my father Miquel Rodríguez and my aunt María Eduvije Rodríguez entered Cuba from 1937 to 40 during the Spanish Civil War.

  4. Good evening, I need a birth certificate for my father. Miquel Rodríguez Rojer was born on July 30, 1935, in Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain, to Gregorio Rodríguez.

  5. I need to know what month the oil that is being delivered in Nuevitas Camagüey belongs to and with what census because I made 2 transfers from municipality within the province 15/4 and in the store where I made the transfer they tell me I do not have the right to the cigarette because the oil comes census 31/3 charged to May. I made my claim to the corresponding levels and there is a discrepancy. I am an adult and sick and I cannot be from one place to another and I do not know now who to contact, thank you.

  6. I don't understand the word disorganization. At this time, when our country is experiencing critical moments with the supply of our basic food basket, it is when there should be more rigor; the people need it.

    • In the province of Ciemfuegos, the March and April rice has not yet arrived, when there are retired elderly people who do not even have money to harvest the product. Please, let us reflect on the delays. Greater control and responsibility are needed.

  7. It is necessary that they remember Villa Clara, which is not mentioned in the distribution of the basic basket. They can no longer afford to buy rice daily. Retirees do not know what to do anymore. Please analyze the distribution; it is very backward.

  8. In reality, there is a tremendous delay with almost all products in the basic basket, but there is also disorganization and lack of demand for what was sacred to the people.

    • Greetings. It all comes down to two words: disconnection from the masses and inattention. No to the internal bloc. Retirees are the most affected after a very active working life.
