More than 51% of applicants pass the university entrance exam in Cuba: these are the results by province.
The Cuban Ministry of Higher Education (MES) offered this Tuesday the first data on the admission process to Higher Education corresponding to the year 2025According to official figures, 51,5% of students who took all three exams passed, representing a slight improvement over the previous year.
More than 18 thousand students took the exam
Of a total of 22 applicants who applied for university admission, 804 ultimately took the exam, or 18% of the total. The remainder were excluded through various alternative admission routes, such as university colleges, academic competitions, or merits obtained in scientific and technical events.
The number of students who passed the three exams reached 9. This represents a 479% increase compared to the previous year, the Ministry of Education (MES) explained in a press conference.
Santiago, Pinar del Río and Granma among the highlighted provinces
In terms of territorial performance, three provinces stood out for their results:
Santiago de Cuba: 82,5% pass rate, the same percentage as the previous year.
Pinar del Río: 79,3%, with a growth of 3,7 points.
Granma: 65,9%, with an improvement of 2,7%.
Furthermore, 97,3% of the students who took the tests were selected for a program included in their choice of courses.
More than 14 thousand places have already been assigned
To date, 14 university places have been awarded. Of these, approximately 000 are for direct admission students: competition winners, talented students from the University College, distinguished participants in academic events, and outstanding graduates of technical and vocational education.
Special exams, at the end of June
The Ministry of Education also reported that exams for the special session—aimed at students with an official justification for not attending the regular session—will be held on the following dates:
23 June: Mathematics
25 June: Spanish
27 June: History
These tests will maintain the same format and level of rigor, according to authorities.
