These promotions are presented as an effort to promote dynamism in the commercial sector. However, they are anachronistic or reflect a disconnect with the reality most Cubans face in their daily lives.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade (Mincin) has announced new offers in the MAI The Burning, belonging to the Basic Business Unit (UEB) of Commerce Santa Lucía in Holguín.
Available products
Among the featured products are household appliances such as blenders and mixers priced at $16,933.50 CUP, ceramic jugs for $375 CUP and cup sets at $1,250.00 CUP.
In addition, the Ministry of Health (MINCIN) has included school uniforms and textile modules for bedridden patients in its offering. However, these latter products are subject to sales controls that limit their accessibility to the general public.
Despite the meager offers, it is important to note that the minimum wage in Cuba is approximately 2,100 CUPThis means that to purchase a blender, a Cuban would need more than eight full months' salary, making it unaffordable for the vast majority of the population.
The exorbitant prices of these insignificant products demonstrate a disconnect between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' trade policies and the real economic capabilities of citizens.
Shortage and limited supply
The reality behind these promotions is that the number of products available is extremely limited.
Often, when appliances like blenders are offered for sale, only two or three units are offered for sale. In some cases, these products never even reach the public because they are held by store employees.
Disconnection from reality
While Cuba is experiencing a deep economic crisis, with shortages of basic goods, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINC) is trying to project an image of commercial activity and dynamism. However, this strategy seems more like an effort to keep up appearances than a real solution to the problems facing the country. With unaffordable prices and limited supply, these promotions reinforce the gap between the image the government attempts to project and the reality of daily life on the island.

Don't sell those mixers. It offends and demeans a communist. I work for 4400 a month. cupUniversal stores full of appliances that are no longer used anywhere else in the world. No, it's not the solution, nor does it help ordinary Cubans. That will create more dissatisfaction and discontent. Those absurd prices that only you know who can afford. Every bad decision you make pains me.
In this country, the only thing you can do is eat poorly. If you don't have family to help you, you don't have access to anything. A very sad reality that we have to live with.
It's true that the government of this country has completely lost all shame, if it ever had any. Honestly, these supposed improvements are a rip-off.
