Ministry of National Institute of Statistics and Census (MINCIN) on the basic food basket: Rice will be distributed free of charge thanks to a donation from Vietnam.

Authorities have confirmed in recent hours that part of the basic food basket of rice will be free, thanks to a donation from the Asian nation to Cuba.

Two pounds of the grain will be delivered free to consumers, according to the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN). The remainder will be sold at the regular price.

Rice, one of the staple foods in the Cuban diet, will be partially distributed free of charge this month, according to the Ministry of Domestic Trade (MINCIN). The donation comes from the Party, State, and people of Vietnam, in compliance with the agreements signed during the official visit to Cuba by General Secretary of the Vietnamese Communist Party, To Lam, in September 2024.

The rice shipment recently arrived at the container terminal of the Mariel Special Development Zone in Artemisa province. There, it was received by the relevant authorities. Although the product has already arrived on Cuban soil, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MINCIN) has not yet confirmed the exact date of its nationwide distribution.

Of the seven pounds of rice normally distributed through the ration book, two pounds will be provided free of charge thanks to the Vietnamese donation. The remaining five pounds will continue to be sold through the regulated system at the usual subsidized price.

This measure will apply, for the moment, in the province of Las Tunas, according to representatives of wholesale food and transportation companies, who also admitted that the exact day on which the rice will reach consumers has not yet been defined.uneRose.

Rice is one of the few products still subsidized in the country, although its distribution has become increasingly uneven.

The economic crisis and dependence on imports have affected the stability of the supply, so donations like this are essential to alleviate, even if only in a limited way, the pressure on Cuban families.

  1. It was also reported on the radio that the children would be given or sold a packet of cookies. Please, if you can't, don't spread the word. The children are anxiously awaiting it. It's already April, and nothing is clear.

  2. They said there was a module for underweight children. Every three months I have to renew my child's diet, and it's just for fun. Please follow the guidelines provided to consumers on a diet.

  3. I don't know what's happening and who's responsible, but the rice from the province of Holguin and the municipality of Antilla has been in the port of Vita for more than five days. I don't know what's happening, but for me it's a lack of respect for the people.

  4. The delivery of basic rice is being made every month, a product that Cubans are accustomed to. There is no one who continues to buy rice at 280 when the minimum wage like mine, which is 2185, is so little. You cannot buy food to make broth because it is also expensive. It is not fair to live with so many needs.

  5. Regarding liquefied gas, don't lie. I haven't bought gas for a month since December 20th, and in February they brought it and gave us gas. Only people who bought it before December 20th were able to buy it. Those who bought it after December 20th haven't bought gas, and today is April 21st, so it's been 4 months.

    • I don't know where you are from, but you are more than privileged because in my municipality I bought it in May 2024, it's been almost a year and I haven't seen it since.

  6. Something that bothers me: if the rice is here and they knew it was coming, why didn't they get ready to distribute it? The people need it, and it needs to be good quality. I think the previous one was Creole.

  7. I don't understand if it's a donation because it's not separate from the 7 pounds they give us, and so we see the help our friends in Vietnam, among other countries, give; in reality, we are always affected.
May God bless the people of Cuba and all the countries that help our country. Blessings

  8. Please, the revolutionary government doesn't read everything these people write. How they deceive the people. They should take all this information seriously.

  9. The sugar they gave in the warehouse is in bags. In my warehouse they gave one per nucleus. In other places they gave one per person.
    where is the mistake?

  10. I don't know what month this rice is for, if it's for the month of March or for the month of April because here in Fomento in the month of March they gave the 7 pounds charged and 10 pesos per pound because it was imported, that was in Fomento, province of Santis Spíritus.

  11. It's impossible to understand that a predominantly agricultural country, with all the mess the land provides, has to import rice and everything. There's a shortage of seafood and salt. I'll leave that as homework.

    • You don't have to be that smart to understand what a blockaded country is. No access to credit, prohibition of oil supply, technology for repairs and development of electricity, purchase of medicine. It's a mockery when Cuba buys from the US it has to pay dearly before receiving the product, the products are transported in American ships that return empty, because Cuba cannot export any product to the US, financial operations are blocked, etc. If you don't understand this you can't have an opinion.

  12. Last month they announced the sale of 2 LBS of rice at 160 cupWhere did they go, or where are they? They haven't been sold in the province of Ciiego de Ávila yet. Then, they reported 2 lbs for free, but still nothing. Now, they're mentioning 2 more lbs. Why mention them if, in the end, they only know how to fail to deliver and raise false hopes, or, in the worst case, justify the failure with a lack of oil or transportation.
One no longer knows whether to laugh or cry at the misfortunes caused and allowed by leaders. Every time they apply a law, it is only to harm the people and those of humble means and those with low wages. The worst thing they did was the creation of the famous MSMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises). Although they have somewhat resolved the food situation in Cuba, it has been a disgrace because they have allowed them to alter prices at will since the announcement of the wage increase.
In the wake of COVID, the entire Cuban economy fell into disgrace, and the funniest thing is that, using the so-called US and domestic blockade as cover. Who's speaking up or what measures are they taking?

  13. I don't understand how they talk about May distribution when in my warehouse 1832 in Arroyo Naranjo they only gave two pounds and two pounds of sugar for March.
from April only grain and oil only
I repeat my concern because I don't know if the company is municipal or provincial, my warehouse, which is unified, does not have a payment platform. I have asked and they told me that although they have the QR code for transfermovil or in the area, it does not work because it is wrong and the company has not fixed it.
Why don't they extend the delivery of cigarettes even for 10 or 15 days to remove them from the warehouse? I don't understand. It's true that in these municipalities there is a large population that doesn't work, but those that do work often do so outside the province, and many lose their jobs.
Regarding the payment platform, that happens in almost, if not most, places where you can't pay online. My warehouse is located on Grant and Rivera Street. They joined several warehouses. For me, it was the best thing they did. I must emphasize that both the administrator and the other girl who works there are excellent people. They are very serious about their work and they handle things within the prescribed timeframe. They keep the warehouse organized, tidy, and clean. I congratulate them and urge them to recognize it.

  14. THIS IS HOW THE EMPIRE SHOULD THINK, NOT WITH CUBA BUT WITH OTHER POOR COUNTRIES, AND ALLOW THE CORRECT MIGRANTS TO HELP AS THEY HAVE ALWAYS DONE SINCE I WAS BORN IN THE ECONOMY OF THAT COUNTRY, AND FORGET THE HATE AND WAR THAT ARE GOING TO EAT THEM UP BY THE BRAIN.
