MINCIN: Latest news on the distribution of basic food baskets in Cuba

Update on rice, sugar, oil, beef, milk, cookies, coffee, and other products.

As tensions mount due to power outages and rising prices for essential goods, delays in the distribution of the basic food basket affect the vast majority of Cuban families.

Although authorities assure that progress is being made, food deliveries remain uneven and experience significant delays in various parts of the country.

In recent days, several territories have begun or resumed delivery of pending products such as rice, coffee, sugar, compotes, oil, and peas. Below, we review the current status of distribution in two provinces: Guantánamo and Pinar del Río.

Powdered milk and rice in Guantánamo

In Guantánamo, distribution of powdered milk for children under one year old began this week, providing a 20-day supply.

The next delivery of milk donated by the World Food Programme (WFP) was also announced, intended to cover the month of May for children between one and two years old. For children between two and six years old, skimmed milk with a 15-day supply will be distributed.

The delivery of a kilogram of cookies for children up to 13 years old is still pending in several municipalities in the province, including Guantánamo, Niceto Pérez, Caimanera, and San Antonio del Sur.

In the rest of the country, the allocation is limited to children aged zero to six. Delays also persist in the delivery of cooking oil, beef, and food modules for children who are underweight or below average height.

The February standardized rice has been sold to the 633 provincial warehouses, and the first five pounds per consumer have been sold for the month of March. The remaining two pounds are being shipped.

From the port of Santiago de Cuba, 120 tons of rice are extracted daily to ensure delivery for the month of May.

The distribution of the two pounds of sugar for April, the coffee, the salt planned for the March-April-May quarter, and the 10 ounces of peas per person were also completed.

Deliveries in progress in Pinar del Río

In Pinar del Río, there is also some movement in the distribution of pending products. This week, two pounds of donated rice corresponding to March are being distributed, with a presence in more than 500 warehouses.

The oil from the same month began distribution in 551 units, while the peas from April and May are already available in 558 stores.

In addition, the April sugar distribution was completed, present at 658 points of sale. Eggs were delivered to pregnant women in 440 units, ground beef for children in 414, and medical diets were distributed to 419 grocery stores. April coffee also began arriving in the main municipality, with active distribution to 48 grocery stores.

Despite these partial advances, the popular demand for faster and more equitable distribution continues in both provinces, especially regarding children's products. Demand continues to grow while supply, battered by the economic crisis, is barely managing to stay afloat.

    • Until when will this submissive people endure, they are slaves of the communist system, diabolical and while the rulers fatten their bellies, but don't worry, that's waiting for the day of the massacre, they will have to give an account, to one who governs or above them and that is God who sees everything.

  1. Comrades, stop complaining so much. We're a country under siege. And thanks to the current situation, we no longer suffer from high cholesterol, high triglycerides, diabetes, and much less gout... Hahahahaha!!!

  2. Children seven years and older don't have milk, there's no bread for school snacks, there's no salary to continue with this, which is becoming more expensive every day, not even counting on the prices, let's talk about how many elderly people don't have anything to eat, there's not even a basic food basket, let's talk about it if nothing is resolved, etc.

  3. I see news that must be from the planet Mars. The level of shamelessness with the ridiculously low basic food products is incredible. Coffee, what is that? Beef? They're talking about what country, only two sugar rations and rice is conspicuous by its absence, zero bread in the basic food basket. How long will this shamelessness last? What's the point?

  4. The basic basket issue is disrespectful (like everything in Cuba). We know why things also work poorly, because there is an absurd system that solves nothing. Cuba needs an urgent change.

  5. I understand the whole situation we are living in, but I would like someone to tell me what the problem is with milk for children aged 2 to 7, or perhaps those children do not have rights like the others.

  7. The basic food basket in Cuba has been reduced to a little rice, two pounds of raw sugar, and a few grams of peas. Nothing in the way of meat. My granddaughter was only given powdered milk until she was six months old, and she didn't have enough bags most months. This is getting worse.

  8. The gas isn't turning on. There's an imbalance between the gas from the mains and the gas from the street. I don't have a problem with the blackout, but if I don't have gas from the mains, then I can't cook. This is a big dilemma to solve, and I have small children.

  9. Here in Havana they are distributing peas in poor condition, all bitten by weevils, and the administrator says that the receipt says they are fit for consumption. It is a lack of respect for the people, that even the little they give is of no use, as if we were pigs.
If it's from the reserve, as some say, and you're in that situation, don't distribute it. There are several agencies here that, according to some, can inspect it before it reaches the population.

  10. I would like to know when they are going to give the fish diet to people who are on a cholesterol diet, since they didn't give it in December and this year they haven't given anything here in Havana. What is happening with the fish diet?

  11. It's unbelievable that so much coffee is advertised and yet it hasn't been distributed. According to what they've said, Cuban coffee is number one in the world and Cubans haven't had the privilege of drinking coffee for months.
Another issue is that transportation in Cuba will be paralyzed so that it is ready for May 28st. Cubans are experiencing blackouts every day, and fuel is being taken for the parade, and even today, April 4, 25, we still don't have any rice to eat. I don't understand anything at all, that's my opinion.
God bless the people of Cuba. Blessings

    • So many articles from the Ministry of National Statistics and Census (MINCIN) to make it seem nice to the whole world, and not even half of what's reported is true. That's why there's so much discontent among the population. Lies, lies, and deceptions, for what? Coffee has disappeared since last year, and they have the nerve to write coffee in the basic food basket. Don't deceive us anymore.

    • I live in Pedro Betancort, Matanzas. Before, you belonged to the Union de Reyes warehouse and now to Jovellanos. But what I don't understand is that the orders have arrived to all the surrounding fields, and Betancort is a municipality, and not even the oil they've been distributing since when has arrived. The rice for March hasn't arrived, there's a lack of cigarettes and other basic food products. It's more than disrespectful because less than 4 km away, the orders have been consumed for a while.

  13. I don't know why they put cookies and beef in the publication when they haven't given any of that for years here. Here the basic basket is a pittance of rice, sometimes there aren't even beans and the little bit of oil that isn't even enough for two days, how horrible 😱😱😱😱

  14. Well, where is that milk that hasn't arrived yet, the month is almost over and my baby, who is almost 11 months old, only gained 1/2 kilo at the beginning of the month. What's happening with children of other ages? Can someone please explain to me why they don't even give him soy yogurt anymore?

  15. In Santa Cruz del Sur, Camaguey province, the rice from March and April has nothing to do with it, and there's no coffee for 4 months, and nothing else to talk about.

  16. Why do they give peas if they can't be eaten? They are chopped up with the hunger that the people have.

      • Why comment if all the blame is on the lack of respect, indolence, and little concern?cupWe are worried about the population and their needs due to the blockade. We are hungry, nothing is enough to survive, and we continue blaming the blockade. Until when do we have to endure and accept this situation because after so many years of revolution, things are getting worse. I'll leave it as homework for you.

    • Today 30/4 /2025 There are warehouses in the Artemisa province where the 5 pounds of rice arrived after 5 pm and those who live far away cannot buy and they cannot ship until Friday. It is disrespectful. We do not all have $300 to buy rice.

  18. As for the bread in the family basket in the province of Santi Spiritus, it cannot be eaten; it has no fat, no salt, and no sugar. In short, it cannot be left overnight because the children cannot eat it, and no one gives a definitive answer.

  19. Here in the municipality of Santa Isabel de las Lajas, the word protein is unknown, and regarding medical diets, it's better not to even mention it, and those over 65 have their jaws on a post.

  20. In Havana, Arroyo Naranjo La Solita municipality, only 2 pounds of March and nothing is happening with the distribution, a retiree cannot buy rice at 300 pesos per pound. What is happening?

  21. AND I ASK, DO THEY ONLY MENTION GUANTANAMO AND PINAR DEL RIO? AND DO THEY NEVER MENTION CAMAGÜEY AT ALL? HERE THERE IS QUITE A LOT OF DELAY IN EVERYTHING AND IF IT IS THE WAREHOUSE WHERE I BELONG, UFFF THE VICTORY OF GIRON FROM THE VERSALLES DISTRICT. HERE ON THIS ISSUE THERE IS MUCH TO DEBATE. WE ARE THE LAST ONES FOR EVERYTHING.

  22. Why do we Cubans make comments? We are deceived by so many lies that they never solve all these comments. The directors read them and our complaints make them laugh.

  23. April is ending and they still owe the rice for March and many other things like coffee and sugar. Finish removing the damn notebook that no longer solves anything. I will buy with my withdrawal of 1500 pesos the 4 crowns that they assign me for the funeRaria. Show some respect and stop telling more lies.

    • Good afternoon, why don't we pick up the FAR trucks to distribute the basic food basket from the town? Each province has a lot of military units that could be doing that job. Why don't we talk about that issue and not solve the problem of the Greek population?

  24. When the faithful commander in chief Castro Rus was alive, nothing like that ever happened. They think that every two or three months a few pounds of rice and a pound of sugar are enough. They think that they can live like that. And those who have children, most of the time, have to send their children home without breakfast.

Why can't they buy a bag of bread on the black market for three hundred pesos every day because their salary isn't enough for that?

  25. And where is the coffee from Rio Cauto Granma that hasn't been produced for about 5 months and the tobacco has been lost for more than 5 months and the rice from March only 2 pounds.

  26. Thank goodness because in the province of Cienfuegos there is still 2 pounds of rice delivery from March missing and the protein in medical diets seems to have disappeared.
