The Cuban transportation minister shared the good news on social media at a time when international tourism in Cuba is seeing a significant drop.
Cubana de Aviación announced the return of its regular flights between Cuba and Germany, a connection that had been suspended for more than 20 years. Starting in November 2025The airline will operate two weekly flights, on Wednesdays and Saturdays, using an Airbus A330-200 with capacity for 287 passengers.
Cuban Minister of Transportation Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila confirmed the news on social media. He explained that this new link seeks to strengthen the island's connectivity with Europe. It responds to the need to expand air travel in a context of growing international competition.
Drop in the number of tourists
However, the announcement comes at a difficult time for the Cuban tourism sector. Official data from the National Office of Statistics and Information (ONEI) indicate that between January and March 2025The country welcomed just 759.641 international travelers. A 22,7% drop compared to the same period in 2024. This represents 223.323 fewer visitors than the previous year.
The decline is also reflected in the number of entries recorded by the Directorate of Identification, Immigration, and Foreigners, which reported only 571.772 arrivals, 70,7% of last year's total. The most significant drop was in the Russian market, with a 49,9% drop in tourist numbers.
On social media, the news of the decline in tourism figures has drawn strong criticism from citizens themselves. "What did you expect?" commented one user, referring to the poor quality of services, the shortage of products, and the obligation to pay in foreign currency. Other users pointed out that "no one wants to come to a country in ruins" or that "it's obvious that tourism in Cuba will continue to decline."
While the national airline celebrates the reopening of this route to Germany, the current situation is discouraging amid the economic crisis, the deterioration of tourism infrastructure, and the loss of competitiveness compared to other destinations in the region.
Despite these circumstances, Cubana de Aviación is committed to maintaining its international presence and improving its image. Although expectations ofcupreal evolution of the Cuban tourism sector remains uncertain.
