New requirements for travel to Cuba now: Requirements at Cuban airports are changing.

According to official media reports, a significant change in entry requirements to Cuba will take effect next week. Authorities have confirmed that new regulations will be implemented that will affect thousands of international travelers.

The measure has generated concern, especially among those planning to fly to the island from the United States, Canada, Spain, and other destinations with a significant presence of Cuban migrants. From now on, even many people with family ties in Cuba will have to meet requirements that were not previously required.

Although until now, certain widely known tourist documents or forms were sufficient, what will begin to be implemented on July 1st will represent a complete change in the country's immigration entry policy. And yes, even certain Cubans with foreign citizenship will be required to comply with it.

Cuba will require mandatory electronic visa

As of July 1, 2025, entry to Cuba will only be permitted with a mandatory electronic visa, as confirmed by the Ministry of Tourism. This rule affects all travelers without a valid Cuban passport, including Cubans residing abroad with a passport from another country, spouses and relatives with foreign citizenship, and even children of Cubans born outside the island.

The visa, which will permanently replace the traditional tourist card, must be applied for at least 72 business hours in advance through the official website evisacuba.cu. The application costs $50 and allows a single entry to the country for a maximum stay of 90 days, which can be extended for the same period.

The tourist card is eliminated

Starting June 30, tourist cards issued by agencies or airlines will no longer be accepted. From that moment on, only electronic visas will be valid for entry to the island. In addition, travelers must complete the D'Viajeros form before their flight and carry valid medical insurance that covers their stay.

The new regulation has been presented as a step toward digitalization and stricter immigration control, amid declining tourism and growing pressure on the country's resources.

What travelers must present

To board the plane to Cuba, the passenger must have in their possession:

  • The E-Visa printed or in digital format

  • The QR code of the D'Viajeros form

  • a valid passport

  • Medical insurance with coverage throughout your stay on the island

While Canadians will continue to receive a visa included in the price of their ticket if they fly direct, those traveling through transit or from other countries will need to apply for their visa separately.

Authorities also warned about the proliferation of fake visa websites charging excessive fees or providing invalid documents. Only the official government platform should be used.

How many Cubans does this measure affect?

According to the Pew Research Center, more than 2,4 million Cubans reside in the United States, and almost half live in the Miami area. Many of them, traveling with U.S. or other passports, will now need to apply for this new e-visa, unless they still have a valid Cuban passport.

  1. If the country has so many problems with electricity and it goes longer without electricity than with it, how are they going to ask for an electronic visa? That only occurs to those who don't think and are children of the president and his colleagues.
