New requirements for travel to Cuba starting July 1: Who in the United States will need a $50 visa?
Travel to Cuba will change significantly starting July 1. Cuban authorities have formalized a new requirement for all international visitors, including many of those traveling from the United States.
The announcement was made by the Ministry of Tourism amid a deep crisis in the sector, which is seeking to reinvent itself following a sharp drop in visitors and growing criticism of the island's tourism experience.
According to official sources, this new requirement will be mandatory for all travelers, even those who previously had access to simpler procedures or without prior formalities. Authorities insist that the measure aims to improve control and efficiency at entry into the country.
The news has raised questions among residents abroad, especially Cubans with mixed nationalities or relatives on the island. Who is affected, and what does it mean to fail to comply with this new requirement?
The electronic visa requirement for entry to Cuba begins.
Since July 1st 2025, all international travelers who do not have a Cuban passport must obtain a mandatory electronic visa before traveling, according to the Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR). The process is carried out through the official portal. evisacuba.cu. It costs $50 and allows a stay of up to 90 days, extendable for another 90 days.
The visa is delivered by email within a period of up to 72 business hours, and must be presented along with a QR code generated upon completion of the fTravelers' Form, mandatory to enter the country.
Who in the United States must complete the procedure?
All travelers residing in the United States and using a foreign passport must apply for this visa, including children of Cuban parents born outside the country or relatives traveling with another nationality. Only those holding a valid Cuban passport are exempt.
Although Canadians continue to benefit from visa inclusion in the price of their direct flights, they must still complete the D'Viajeros form. If they have a stopover, they will also need to apply for an electronic visa.
Warning about fake websites
The Cuban government has warned about the proliferation of unauthorized websites charging exorbitant fees for visa processing. Travelers are advised to use only the official website to avoid fraud or delays.

Each state establishes its rules based on its sovereignty.
visa
What does what the USA does have to do with what Cuba does?
The United States can impose restrictions that will leave millions of people leaving. Cuba is a bankrupt country that needs tourists to survive.
rude
They no longer have anything to do to generate money since the country is bankrupt. They no longer produce anything, the sugarcane fields have left the country in ruins without knowing how to get it out of the bottom of the pit.
Well, if dictators put restrictions on those who travel to Cuba, they should also put restrictions here.
A very good idea to find perfect money, but be careful, they can scare away even more tourists.
It is not clear if I am Cuban and I do NOT have a Cuban passport, only an American passport, do I pay for my visa and can I enter Cuba? I did not understand who can and who cannot.
