The government has always tried to minimize the impact on Havana residents. While residents in other provinces suffer up to 20 hours of blackouts, residents of the capital have a special system of rotating power blocks. The creation of a new block demonstrates the deteriorating power generation situation on the island.
Faced with the growing deterioration of the national electricity system, the Havana Electric Company announced this Tuesday the creation of a new blackout block, identified as number 5, as part of a reconfiguration of its programming due to a generation deficit. The measure responds to the need to reorganize outages in the face of a crisis that is already affecting the entire capital.
The new block includes specific areas of Boyeros, Arroyo Naranjo, La Lisa, Centro Habana, and Habana del Este, although it also covers areas of other municipalities such as Playa, Cerro, and Marianao, according to the company's official publication. The outage schedule for this Tuesday was adjusted to include this block, which will be affected from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Cuba at its energy limit
According to official data, the electrical system's availability at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday was just 1,480 MW, compared to a demand exceeding 2,600 MW. This generated an immediate deficit of 1,147 MW. During the evening peak hours, a disruption of up to 1,668 MW is expected.
The aging infrastructure, lacking ongoing maintenance, continues to fail, with no real solution in sight. Despite calls for efficiency and promises of renewable energy, the population continues to face prolonged blackouts, gas shortages, and collateral damage such as bakery shutdowns, school interruptions, and nights without ventilation.
One user expressed their frustration on social media: "I'm from La Víbora, we're without gas and electricity. We're affected by Block 2 and also Block 3. How can you tell a child or a sick person that there's no lunch because of this?"

It's all a badly told story
Havana is not affected by 22 hours of blackouts like Santiago.
They spend money on meetings, parties, and everything else. That's why no one believes anyone. Everything they say is a lie. They have deceived the people. No gas, no food. Terror prevails in Cuba.
Blackouts, exchange rates, and visas for Cubans. Will there be any separate articles?
