The blackout situation in Cuba is getting more complicated: Unit 1 of the Felton thermoelectric plant is paralyzed due to a breakdown.

In the last few minutes, it has become known that Unit 1 of the Felton Thermoelectric Plant has been shut down due to a leak in the boiler. More details below.

Unit No. 1 of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Plant, located in Felton, Holguín, halted power generation this Saturday after a leak was detected in the main boiler.

The incident forced the evacuation of steam and cooling of the system.

According to energy authorities, after detecting the leak, the steam was evacuated and the affected area cooled so that technical teams could safely access the incident. Specialists and engineers are currently evaluating the exact causes of the failure.

The plant's director, Emilio Rodríguez Pupo, confirmed that the process is being carried out under the direct supervision of the highest authorities of the Party and the Government in the Mayarí municipality.

Impact on national electricity generation

The shutdown of this unit comes at a particularly delicate time for the national electricity system (SEN), which is facing a severe generation crisis with long-term blackouts across the country. Felton Uno is one of the key plants for energy supply in the eastern region.

Although the estimated time of re has not been reportedcuperation, this unforeseen outage adds to the multiple limitations that the SEN already faces due to breakdowns, lack of fuel and accumulated maintenance.
