The electricity panorama in Cuba is becoming more complicated.

Cuba is experiencing one of its most critical days in terms of energy this Friday, with the situation nearing the total collapse of the National Electric System.

According to the latest report from the Electricity Union, on the morning of April 25, generation availability barely reached 1650 MW compared to a demand that already exceeded 2700 MW. The actual deficit at that time was 1097 MW, but the impact is expected to increase to 1250 MW by midday.

The forecast for peak hours is even more alarming. With an estimated demand of 3380 MW and no change in generating capacity, the deficit could reach 1730 MW, which would imply widespread impacts of over 1800 MW.

Alarming situation

The figures reflect a serious crisis exacerbated by the shutdown of 104 distributed generation plants, most of them shut down due to fuel shortages. Added to this are four thermoelectric plants undergoing maintenance and two more out of service due to breakdowns, severely limiting the system's response capacity.

Solar generation, although active, remains insufficient: this Wednesday, only 986 MWh were produced from the eight photovoltaic parks in operation.

Havana's blackout schedule for today, by block

Faced with this situation, the Havana Government confirmed scheduled power outages throughout the day, affecting blocks #1, #3, #4, #2 and #5 at different times from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Blackouts have lasted for days in several provinces. And the situation could worsen further with the arrival of high summer temperatures. Experts warn that without acupWithout a break in fuel supply or the reinstatement of key units, there is no real possibility of stabilizing the system.

Meanwhile, the population continues to grapple with extensive power outages, water service interruptions, and the inability to cook with electric means. This is amid a widespread crisis that also affects access to food and other basic services.

  1. It is disrespectful to say that there is no fuel and they are planning a parade for May Day, for that very reason, and they cannot even express the shortages, needs and low wages.

  2. That's the Empire's fault, and we're like this because of that disgusting blockade and its absurd measures to massacre Cuba. The Empire should leave us alone and you'll see the change. Don't massacre us anymore. It's a genocide against Cuba.

  3. WE ARE SCREWED UP LIKE THIS BECAUSE OF THE BLOCKADE AND THE DISGUSTING PODIUM THAT THE EMPIRE, TRUMP AND MARCOS RUBIOS HAVE, WHO ARE MASSACRING THE CUBAN PEOPLE BECAUSE OF THAT HATE AND THAT AGGRESSIVE POLICY TOWARDS A SMALL AND ENTERPRISING COUNTRY IN ANY SPECTRUM IF IT WERE NOT FOR THAT ABUSE
