Unit 3 of the plant went offline again on May 5 due to a boiler leak. The energy crisis is worsening.
Six months of repairs did not prevent the breakdown
The Carlos Manuel de Céspedes thermoelectric plant in Cienfuegos province suffered another breakdown just four days after being reintegrated into the national electricity grid. Unit 3, which began operating on May 1 after six months of extensive technical maintenance, was again out of service on May XNUMX.unes 5 due to a leak in the boiler.
This was reported by pro-government journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso, who did not specify how long it will take to repair the damage or offer details about its extent.
Blackouts worsen amid energy collapse
With this shutdown, the electricity situation in Cuba becomes even more critical. That same day, the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant in Matanzas was also shut down for "urgent maintenance," according to the Electric Union (Unión Eléctrica).UNE).
The energy deficit forecast for the luneThe power consumption was 1.680 MW, nearly 50% of national demand. However, with the shutdown of the Cienfuegos plant, the impact reached 1.730 MW.
To mitigate the situation, the UNE announced that this Tuesday, May 6, Unit 6 in Nuevitas and Unit 8 in Mariel would be incorporated. If this plan is carried out, the maximum impact could be reduced to 1.575 MW.
More than 20 hours without electricity in several provinces
For days now, blackouts have intensified in many areas of the country, reaching more than 20 consecutive hours. Outages have even been reported during the early morning hours, despite temporary relief on May 1, when authorities used stored fuel to increase mobile generation.
Unit 2 in Santa Cruz del Norte, Unit 4 in Cienfuegos, Unit 6 in Guiteras, Unit 5 in Nuevitas, and Unit 72 in Renté remain out of service for maintenance. Additionally, due to a lack of fuel, 545 distributed generation plants are inactive, representing XNUMX MW of unproduced energy.

Enough with the breakages, build new ones, no more unnecessary patches, solve the problem once and for all.
that can't be possible
Until when will Cuba continue like this? If we speak, we are bad, but we tell the truth, nothing is a lie. Without food, without water, without medicine, without doctors who work, and above all, without electricity, they press.
This is already degrading, considering the thermoelectric plants. I believe this one was out for months, supposedly being fixed. All broken, unsafe fuel, the so-called president traveling in luxurious clothes, wearing luxurious watches to commemorations, and I don't know what else. Years of neglect in this country, and those at the top living in extreme luxury, lives of millionaires with marked obesity in a country without very expensive food, and sending the people to resist. We continue in combat! Greetings.
