Liquefied gas sales in Cuba: these customers will have priority

Since when can't you buy liquefied gas? CUPET will prioritize these specific clients.

Access to liquefied natural gas in Cuba has become a nightmare. Since October 2024, many households have been unable to purchase a cylinder, not because of an absolute shortage, but because their rotation cycle had not yet begun.

In March of this year, the situation worsened: cylinder sales were completely suspended in several provinces, leaving thousands of families without alternative cooking options.

The lack of financing to purchase the product abroad paralyzed imports.

In the first quarter of the year, no ships were able to unload liquefied natural gas on the island. Authorities attributed the problem to difficulties in processing international payments, while lines, complaints, and the forced use of firewood or charcoal became part of everyday life in many urban and rural areas.

Recently, gas began arriving on a limited basis, allowing distribution to resume in some areas.

However, the volume is still insufficient to cover the entire population. Therefore, the Government has decided to apply priority criteria for distribution.

In some territories these priorities will be established

Given the impossibility of ensuring widespread service, local authorities have begun to impose restrictions.

In this initial phase, priority will be given to bedridden patients and patients undergoing hemodialysis treatment, according to lists prepared by the Ministry of Public Health.

In several municipalities across the country, it has been reported that sales will only resume for those registered on these lists and who have the required documentation, such as a patient ID card, a supply booklet, and a gas purchase card.

For example, on the Isle of Youth

The Territorial Fuel Marketing Division (DTCC) in Isla de la Juventud announced that, due to low available inventory, liquefied gas will be distributed exclusively to the most critical cases.

Cuban government promised to eliminate daytime blackouts in June, but outages continue

In Nueva Gerona, beneficiaries will be able to purchase the product this Tuesday, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., at their usual retail location.

In the Patria, Demajagua, Atanagildo, and Victoria neighborhoods, gas will be delivered directly to homes. In Chacón and La Fé, sales are scheduled for Wednesday at the same time.

Local authorities emphasized that gas will only be delivered to those who present the three required documents.

This requirement, in the midst of a crisis situation, can become a new obstacle for many families.

No solution in sight for the shortage

The state-owned company's statement does not clarify when supply will stabilize or what structural measures will be taken to prevent further interruptions.

Meanwhile, the daily lives of Cubans continue to be affected by this crisis.

On social media, a young woman described the grueling process of getting gas: installing apps like Transfermóvil, paying by appointment, monitoring the progress of the lines, and facing constant blackouts that make it impossible to even cook with electricity.

Added to this are incidents such as the ship carrying 1,300 tons of gas that was stranded off the coast of Santiago de Cuba for nearly four months.

According to the Minister of Energy and Mines, Vicente de la O Levy, the oil could not be unloaded due to a lack of funds, leaving the island without access to the product for the first 117 days of the year.

  1. Everything is fine, the country's situation is understood, but asthmatic people with respiratory problems are not included as priority people. I think that type of case can also be prioritized, always with their medical papers. Thank you.

  2. Good evening, my question is the following: there are many municipalities and towns that have been without a gas contract for years, as they claim that it is not being done and therefore they force people to buy on the left, as they say, and to buy coal at excessive prices and use only electronic cooking equipment. Until when will this continue because a census is not carried out to determine how many families are without a gas contract in municipalities that do not have manufactured gas?

  3. every day they change the gas distribution, first 15 days for those who did not get gas, when in my point there was gas from November to March 5, now the points are almost empty and those of us who have been 4 months without the liquid and that gives way to fraud, I did not get it in January because it ran out and I got it on February 10. it means that it was my turn on the 6th and now it is not the 10th but the 16th, they started on May 31st so now when I get it it is my turn on January 24th, or what, the priority to people who have that problem I accept it, but there are many people who orcupin charge of caring for the vulnerable who have not been notified of what is vulnerable, in my case, I have liver cirrhosis and heart problems, plus the kidney that everyone knows has problems and the comp that attends to this told me that I looked very well, does it mean that my medical records are bought or that at this moment I have ligation in the abdomen and I had it in the lung and passes by me and does not tell me anything, and what I fear is that a huge queue will form with the sick people, I think we have to see how the queues are managed

  4. In Santa Clara, gas sales have been halted, with inventories in progress. The entire town has seen the pails being unloaded at the plant. The party leadership and the government need to take action on the issue. There is no justification unless they are doing it on purpose to further stress the people. The party and government should play their part.

  5. Good afternoon, I have a question. It is very good that they first provide gas to those who are happy and hemodialysis. Just never lie to people diagnosed with cancer, even if it is an acquired pathology. We are not vulnerable either. They are no longer given a diet and they are not even given anything similar like the vulnerable and pregnant women. I would like you to also assess these people who are also sick. Some end up with chemo and others with palliative treatments. In the end, we are sick and are not assessed. Please also review these pathologies and patients who have them and due to unrelated situations are not assessed. Thank you.

  6. If they cannot resolve the situation of the Cuban population, what kind of leaders do we have? It would be better for them to hand over the baton to a government that has the capacity and desire to resolve all the problems of the people, who have been suffering endless shortages for so long and without seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.

  7. I propose that you stop talking about or justifying the problems and misfortunes you've plunged us into, deep down, that you dedicate yourself to finding solutions, that you stop exporting coal and start distributing it through the damned shortage ration book. Stop bothering us and talk less. Cubans, on the gas. Let's forget it.
