The Jerónimos Monastery is located in the coastal neighborhood of Belém, which during the 15th century was a port of call for Portuguese caravels that set out to conquer other continents. As you can see, Belém is now a spacious neighborhood, home to several museums and gardens.
Listed as a World Heritage Site UNESCO, the Jerónimos Monastery, began construction in 1502 by order of King Manuel, and was intended for the Jerónimo monks. The influx of wealth that followed Vasco da Gama's return from the Indies discoveries was crucial to its construction.

You'll discover a unique village with a unique climate. So beautiful that you'll want to lose yourself in its streets, its palaces, mansions, and villas, and delight in its traditional pastries.

Sintra is located about 30 minutes from the capital and features lush tropical gardens, palaces, and stately manor houses. In 1995, the entire mountain complex was named a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. UNESCO.
For six centuries, this place was the favorite residence of Portuguese sovereigns and aristocracy. In the 6th century, several Romantic artists and writers made their home here.
In Sintra, we can see the National Palace, with its magnificent tile decoration from the 15th and 16th centuries. The most beautiful tiles decorate the Arab Room, the chapel, and the Mermaid Room. The Reading Room, or Magpie Room, has a painted ceiling decorated with magpies, as many as there were ladies in the court of King John I, who had previously been surprised by the Queen while embracing a lady-in-waiting.
Also note the ceiling of the Hall of Coats of Arms, which depicts the coats of arms of the 72 Portuguese noble families from the early XNUMXth century. The only one missing is that of the Coelho family, who conspired against John II.
