Mexican authorities have detained several migrants from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Colombia in recent operations in the municipality of Tizayuca, Hidalgo state.
The Tizayuca Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC) reported that in recent days, inspections of public transportation vehicles were carried out, during which immigrants of various nationalities were detected. These operations included the participation of federal, state, and municipal agents.
Last Friday, around 10 migrants, including Cubans, Venezuelans, and Colombians, were detained for failing to prove their entry and legal residence in Mexico.
In a second operation carried out this Tuesday, the Tizayuca SSC reported the arrest of another group of undocumented immigrants, including Cubans, Haitians, Venezuelans, and Ecuadorians.
All detained migrants were transferred to the National Migration Institute (INM) office in Pachuca de Soto to verify their immigration status.
Official reports have not specified the exact number of Cubans detained. According to authorities, these operations are aimed at "preventing and eradicating crime" and "safeguarding the safety of citizens" in Tizayuca, a municipality located north of Mexico City.
The Tizayuca SSC, the Hidalgo Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the National Defense Secretariat, and the INM participated in these operations.
Local media have reported that at least three immigration operations have been carried out in Tizayuca this month, in which around thirty undocumented foreigners, mainly from Central and South America, have been detected. In a similar operation carried out at the end of June, several Cubans who were unable to legitimize their legal stay in the country were detained.
Previous arrests
Recently, two families and six individuals, all of Cuban origin, were detained by the INM (National Institute of Migration) in the municipality of Cuautitlán Izcalli, in the State of Mexico.
The flow of Cuban migrants to Mexico has increased significantly in recent years. Mexico has become a crucial point for these migrants on their way to the southern border of the United States, where they hope to apply for asylum. Currently, thousands of Cuban citizens are waiting for their CBP One appointments in various Mexican states.
