Cubans arrested in the United States and Italy for robbery and other serious crimes

In recent days, several arrests of Cuban citizens have been reported in various countries.

Luxury glasses stolen in Miami

In Florida, Xavier Pérez, 52, Lázaro Yansel Salazar, 27, and Alexander Trujillo Gómez, 48, were arrested after being linked to the theft of more than 3,500 sunglasses from brands such as Ray-Ban, Prada and Gucci, valued at more than $XNUMX million.

The sunglasses were stolen from Sunglass Hut stores in Tennessee and South Carolina and mailed to Miami. A local law enforcement officer, working with the Department of Homeland Security, determined the products were being shipped to an address in the Flagami area.

Couple arrested in Texas for serious crimes

In another case, a Cuban couple was arrested in Texas in an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation. They are Leiwin Lara Hernández, 23, and Cleyret Pacheco Peraza, 22, who face felony charges in the city of Odessa.

The investigation began in December 2024, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted them to a media file containing explicit content shared on TikTok.

A special agent with the Texas Department of Public Safety tracked down the information and identified the minor involved as the daughter of the defendants.

The evidence led to the arrest of both suspects, who now face serious charges. In addition to a possible sentence of decades in prison, they could be deported after serving their sentences.

Perfume theft in Italy

In Italy, a Cuban woman was arrested after being identified as part of a group of three women who stole luxury perfumes from a store.

The incident occurred in October 2024, when the suspects entered the store individually, pretending not to know each other to avoid raising suspicions. They then took the products and hid them in their bags before paying for low-cost items to disguise themselves.

The store manager reported the theft, estimated at around 2,000 euros, and security cameras identified the suspects, who are between 30 and 35 years old.

Authorities located the Cuban woman at her home in Italy, while the other two suspects, Chilean nationals, were also identified.

This case adds to other recent cases in which Cubans have been arrested in Italy for crimes such as robbery, theft, and drug trafficking.

Increase in operations against international crimes

The recent arrests reflect the increase in police operations in various countries to combat criminal activity. Investigations continue in each of these cases, and authorities have urged the community to collaborate with relevant information.
