If you want to immigrate to the United States: What should you know about the new asylum rule?

The new rule imposed by the United States for the granting asylum to migrants, affects the thousands of Cubans already waiting at the Mexican border for their chance to apply for asylum, and also those still heading toward this border for the same purpose.

The new rule, already in effect, establishes that any foreigner who attempts to enter the United States through the southern border without having requested protection in a third country will not be eligible for asylum.

This regulation is complementary to the previous one, which also affected thousands of Cubans seeking asylum in the United States: the return to Mexico of applicants for "credible fear of persecution."cucion" to wait there for the appointment before an immigration judge.

The exemption category applies to migrants who are ineligible for entry to the United States due to criminal records, previous asylum denials, or similar reasons.
