How to enable battery saving mode on iPhone and Android: step-by-step guide

Low battery is a common problem for all smartphones these days. But there's something that can help. Both Android and iOS iPhones include a feature to extend battery life: power saving mode. We'll explain how to activate it and when to use it.

What does power saving mode do?

This feature reduces power consumption by limiting background activities. It lowers the screen brightness, shortens the time it waits before locking, suspends automatic syncs, and reduces processor power. On Android, some models activate dark mode to further save energy.

When to activate it

Energy-saving mode can be activated manually or scheduled. On Android, it's recommended to use it when the battery level drops to 20% or less. On iPhone, it activates automatically at 20%, but you can force it earlier if you need more battery life.

How to set it up on Android

  1. Opens Settings > Battery.
  2. Choose Energy saving > Programme.
  3. Activate the option Activate according to battery level and set the desired percentage (e.g. 20%).
  4. To automatically turn it off at 90%, go to Settings > Battery > Programme and brand Turn off at 90%.

To activate it manually, swipe down the notification bar and tap the power saving mode icon. If you don't see it, edit your shortcuts and add it.

Note: Some manufacturers include options such as Super savings, which limits the phone to basic functions. Use it only in emergencies.

How to activate it on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Battery.
  2. Activate the switch next to Low power mode.
  3. For faster access, add the control to the Control center:
    • Opens Settings > Control center.
    • Tap the “+” button next to Low power mode.

You can also activate it by swiping up from Control Center (from the top right corner on Face ID models or from the bottom on others) and tapping the battery icon.

Additional tips

  • On Android, set your screen refresh rate to 60Hz for even more power savings.
  • On iPhone, turn off background refresh for non-essential apps.
