Online appointments will open today for the Mexican Embassy in Cuba.

The Mexican Embassy in Havana, the capital of Cuba, has officially announced that the MEXITEL online appointment system will be open to all interested parties starting this Friday, April 5th.

On this occasion, the MEXITEL system will be open exclusively to those who need to legalize documents at the Embassy or those who need to apply for visas with permission from the National Migration Institute (INM).

Visas with permission from the National Migration Institute are those whose application process has been initiated through the National Migration Institute in Mexico. Once the visa authorization is approved by the INM, the applicant completes the process at the corresponding Mexican Consular Office abroad; in the case of Cubans, at the Mexican Embassy in Havana.

The Mexican Embassy in Cuba has officially confirmed that, starting at 10:30 a.m. (local time) on April 5, the MEXITEL system website will be open for online appointments. These appointments will be available for the weeks between May 1 and 15, 2019.

Likewise, the Mexican Embassy in Cuba has confirmed that the opening date for online visa applications without permission from the National Migration Institute will be announced no later than April 10th of this year.

It is important to note that the Mexican Embassy has implemented a new security system through an electronic confirmation, known as a "token." This tool aims to prevent the same person from making multiple appointments online and then selling them on the informal market. This violation has been observed in the vicinity of the Consular Office itself, and it has also been confirmed that appointments are being negotiated on sites such as Revolico.com, at prices reaching up to USD 400 per appointment.

The new security system aims to "strengthen the security of appointment scheduling by interested parties," although it has been clarified that "selecting the day and time of your appointment without entering confirmation information does not guarantee that your appointment will be scheduled."

To schedule an appointment online in the MEXITEL system, applicants must have an active email address. The information will be sent to the email address provided by the Consular Office. The email address must be validated before completing the entire process.

The official statement from the Mexican Embassy in Cuba clarifies that if the personal information entered when registering for an online appointment is not identical to that contained in the applicant's passport (full name, including accents), the appointment may be rejected.

The official statement itself states that every two weeks, the Mexican Embassy in Cuba makes available to Cubans "a certain number of appointments based on their material and human resources."
