Cuba issues more than 3 licenses for private data networks

According to a breaking news report from the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the Cuban Ministry of Communications (MINCOM) officially announced the approval of more than 3 operating licenses for private data networks, or wireless data networks, for individuals. This figure, which exceeds 100, represents 3 percent of the total number of licenses requested for this operation. However, these are only the ones approved so far, and they will not be the only ones authorized in the future.

David Wong Sío, deputy head of the General Directorate of Communications, in official statements to the Cuban News Agency He explained that since the most recent MINCOM regulations came into force in July 2019, more than four thousand applications for the operation of Private Data Networks have been received by this agency. Of this figure, 49 percent have been received through the entity's website: www.mincom.gob.cu

Cuba approved these recent regulations with the aim of legalizing the creation of private wired or wireless data transmission networks, both for individuals and legal entities, and also to allow and legalize the importation of equipment for this purpose.

About the online application form if it is correctly completed:

If a Cuban user wishes to complete the online form, they must access the web portal, go to the Procedures category, register their information, and then go to the Telecommunications section.

David Wong Sío emphasized to the press the need to correctly provide the required information in all sections of the application form. The reason: most unassigned licenses are due to errors in completing the application.

All information must be correct and accurate to prevent it from later matching the license terminology. As an example, the official explained: users must complete their first and last names, respecting the capitalization at the beginning.

Within the framework of the process of computerizing society in Cuba, Wong Sío emphasized that the possibility of applying for licenses and permits through the web portal has the advantage of reducing the expenditure of resources typically invested in these procedures, while simultaneously streamlining the process.

Options for submitting your request if you are unable to complete the online form:

David Wong Sío recommends that, in all cases where users are unable to complete the online form, they should download it from the MINCOM website or request the document via email from the Territorial Directorates of the Technical Budget Unit for Radio Spectrum Control (UPTCER).
