The National Civil Defense General Staff has declared the Information Phase for the provinces of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba, Holguín, Granma, and Las Tunas due to the heavy rains expected in that region starting today at 10:00 a.m. The measure seeks to guide the population to protect themselves from the potential adverse effects of weather conditions.

Meteorological conditions

According to the agency's first briefing, a trough in the Atlantic Ocean extends as far south as the Lesser Antilles and the seas north of Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. It has strong cores with showers, rain, and thunderstorms, and is moving toward the eastern tip of Cuba.

The situation is worsening as a broad area of ​​low pressure is forecast to develop south of the Caribbean Sea, causing atmospheric instability. Together, both factors will increase cloudiness from early in the day, causing showers, rain, and thunderstorms in the eastern provinces this Saturday.
