Controversy erupts: Luis Silva comes out to defend Pánfilo and Vivir del cuento

Popular Cuban comedian Luis Silva, who plays Pánfilo, the most popular character on Cuban television, responded emphatically and clearly to serious questions posed to the team of the program Vivir del cuento, alluding to intellectual property violations.

Silva said he is the creator and sole owner of the character, in response to a comment from Facebook user Alejandro Cruz, who stated: "For me, the main problem lies in the violation of all intellectual property rights. Who owns the program Vivir del Cuento? Who is its creator? Who pays each of the actors on this program?"

"We must bear in mind that a Cuban television program with the same format, the same actors, and the same characters cannot be allowed to be produced in Miami or any other country without proper authorization," Cruz stated, to which Luis Silva immediately responded:

“First of all, I want to clarify that I am the absolute owner of the character of Pánfilo. He came from my head; he was my creation. He was born in 2001 while I was studying cybernetics in my fourth year at the University of Havana. Therefore, with Pánfilo, I can do and decide whatever I want,” he continued:

"I'm taking Pánfilo to Miami, to the Cubans of Miami who never miss Vivir del cuento, and I'm also taking him to the nursing homes in Cuba. I'm taking him to Canada, and also to the elementary schools in Cuba where the children go crazy with joy," wrote Silva, who went on to list the various venues where he has presented his popular character.

In his post, user Alejandro Cruz made serious demands on the ICRT to act with much greater rigor in its artistic contracts:

"Why does the ICRT allow this to happen, to use the characters from the television program Vivir del Cuento al libre albedrío (Living the Story) to be published in its entirety on a YouTube channel that has nothing to do with the ICRT, with whose permission?" the user asked, and continued:

"This shows that Cuban institutions today need to protect themselves more. We need to think about and adapt these types of contracts to the current times to bring us much closer to international practices in this regard."

These questions received a timely response from Luis Silva, who did not hold back and directly questioned the country's performance and artist compensation policy:

"What happens everywhere in the world, as you say, is that actors get paid properly. If we were paid properly, I swear I wouldn't be doing shows at night, until 2 in the morning, sometimes for a good audience, other times for an audience that's been drunk. Otherwise, we can't do Karl Marx, or Aquelarre, or tour the country."

Finally, at the end of his commentary, Silva referred to the sad incident that has generated controversy in recent days, when Cuban television executives decided to close the doors to Andy Vázquez, who played three different characters on the program with the highest audience in the history of Cuban television.

“Don't beat around the bush or go off on a tangent. The important thing here is that no one deserves what they did to Andy Vázquez. That video was nothing. Those who should be punished are those who already have that market, and all the others, empty and understocked. None of this would have happened. My best regards,” Silva concluded in his comment.

  1. If they take away "Living the Story," then what would we live on? Because we laugh at the misfortunes we have and go through, and we suffer like PÁNFILO, Living the Story. Or do they also envy the suffering of Cubans and their way of life? Don't question it anymore, learn to "live the story."

  2. Luis Silva is a wonderful artist, he is young but he is a Cuban with his head on where he goes, he has tremendous fame, many people like us, his character (PANFILO) I always make it clear, it did not come from a script, it came from his head, therefore it belongs to him, let's not be unfair, if they ban the program, they will simply be forcing him, as the saying goes, take your music elsewhere, where I am sure it will be very well received, he has been famous for years, and with this Panfilo program he broke records, we love him, he has left the country many times and he always returns, he is a Cuban, happy to be Cuban, reconsider before making any decision that causes pain to the Cuban people in its great majority,,, and you ALEJANDRO CRUZ, see if there is something else to dedicate your time to if you are frustrated, aaa if you want you can come help us doctors here in the red zone, your contribution will be well received, thank you. We are Cuba, we are continuity.

  3. Alejandro Cruz, I don't know you and I don't want to be unfair when I say what I think about you, but since I know the program Vivir del Cuento, I feel entitled to give my opinion. This program has been wonderful, it delights us every single day.uneYes, in the midst of so much misfortune it makes us laugh, and that is the main objective of the program, we cannot mix every criticism with politics, if we do that we will stop making jokes of laughing, something that Cubans have always done, reigns of our own misfortune, we must put aside the complex, ((if they take away the program living off the story)) it is better to get rid of the televisions, because with all respect to the programming this terrible, if they take away the aforementioned program, it will be a great discontent for the vast majority of the Cuban people, those responsible for such a crazy decision should reflect. GREETINGS THANK YOU.

  4. I would venture to say that this Mr. Alejandro Cruz is nothing more than a puppet pulled by the strings of the ICRT leadership and the government. In this way, they create the perception of a sense of censorship arising from the people and eventually being able to suspend the program "in the name of the people," which, evidently, they have not done yet, because the true people love this program and would angrily express their disagreement.

  5. I'll be brief and concise! Alejandro Cruz, do you feel any envy or frustration in your life? Vivir del Cuento is the best comedy show on Cuban TV, and Pánfilo, as Luis Silva rightly says, takes you wherever he wants. Stop meddling in things that don't concern you.
