Holguín opens its first dollar store

With the opening of the Electro La Central sales unit this Saturday, December 7, Holguín joins the Cuban provinces that already have a store in dollars or other freely convertible currencies belonging to the CIMEX Business Group. This is the first initiative implemented by this entity's branch in Holguín in the recently launched 2019 New Year's Eve campaign.

The new store, which covers an area of ​​approximately 108 square meters, houses the various household appliances for sale. It also includes the technology required for payment via USD magnetic cards and two areas for verifying the correct operation of purchased items.

Yulieski Teruel, the new entity's commercial manager, stated that this model prioritizes the sale of six lines of high-end appliances, such as refrigerators over 13 feet tall and 55- and 65-inch Samsung televisions.

Likewise, the official announced that air conditioning equipment, chest refrigerators, and automatic washing machines will go on sale in the coming days.

This new store has a total of nine employees. Of this total, four will work directly in customer service. On this first day of work, the customer-facing employees will be supported by the branch's sales representatives, representatives from the CIMEX Financial Institution (Fincimex), and the CIMEX Technology Division.

Leudis Bauzá, general manager of this business group in the province of Holguín, confirmed that by 2020, the services of the stores in freely convertible currency will be extended to the municipalities of Banes and Moa. They will be located in the El Radar and Rolo Monterrey retail units, respectively.

In parallel with Holguín, three more facilities of this type will be inaugurated this Saturday, December 7, in the provinces of Matanzas, Villa Clara and CamagüeyMeanwhile, on Monday, December 9, the states of Granma, Guantánamo, Las Tunas, and Sancti Spíritus will join.

Starting on the 16th of this month, the CIMEX Business Group will begin gradually opening stores across the country selling transportation and spare parts. Holguín is expected to join this line of sales before the end of 2019, in the space adjacent to this newly opened facility, according to the general manager.

On October 28th, 12 stores of this type were opened in Havana and one in Santiago de Cuba. The objective of these entities is to attract dollars and other foreign currency to the country and also to provide new options and services to the population. A total of 77 stores of this type are planned to open throughout Cuba.

These centers will sell large-format televisions, high-end refrigerators, automatic washing machines, electric motorcycles, and car components at more affordable prices.

The purchase of these products requires opening accounts in US dollars, linked to magnetic cards. Deposits can also be made in euros, pounds sterling, Canadian dollars, Swiss francs, Mexican pesos, Danish, Norwegian, or Swedish kroner, and Japanese yen.
