The US bans cruise ships, pleasure boats, and private planes from traveling to Cuba.

The Donald Trump administration has ordered a ban on travel to Cuba by cruise ships, recreational vessels, and private planes, effective Wednesday, June 5, 2019.

This information was made public through an official statement published Tuesday by the United States Department of the Treasury. This statement made no mention of any measures regarding commercial aircraft travel to Cuba.

According to this official statement from the United States Department of the Treasury, the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), an agency of the United States Department of Commerce that oversees issues related to U.S. national security and high technology, in coordination with the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), is amending the Export Administration Regulations (EAR).

The purpose of these amendments to the Export Administration Regulations is to make cruise ships, recreational vessels, and private aircraft operating trips to Cuba ineligible for licenses issued by the United States Department of Commerce and, therefore, to establish, as a general policy of this North American agency, the denial of applications for such licenses.

According to statements offered by lawyer Collin Laverty to the digital news portal El Nuevo Herald"The US administration has eliminated permits for cruise ships, yachts, and private planes to visit Cuba." It's important to keep in mind that more than half of American passengers traveling to Cuba do so using cruise ships as their means of transportation.

These restrictions by the U.S. Department of the Treasury will take effect this Wednesday, June 5, 2019, when the regulations are published in the Federal Register, as required in these cases.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin explained in the official statement that these actions are being implemented with the goal of "keeping U.S. dollars out of the reach of Cuban military, intelligence, and security services."

On April 17 of this year, Donald Trump's National Security Advisor, John Bolton, officially announced during an event held at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables that the United States would impose new restrictions on travel and remittances to the island.
