The distribution of liquefied gas in Santiago de Cuba is paralyzed again after a failed attempt at normalization. Cuba Petroleum (Cupet) announced this luneThe suspension of sales until further notice, causing outrage among thousands of users who had been waiting for their turn for months.
The announcement, broadcast early in the morning on the Telegram channel of Cupet In Santiago, this contradicts what had been presented as a secure operation by the authorities. According to the official plan, 14.000 pellets would be delivered daily for 24 consecutive days. However, just three weeks after the distribution began, the service was interrupted without prior notice for a large part of the population.
Sustained discomfort
Complaints were swift. “They were full of gas claims that there was enough gas for 100% of the communities. This is unspeakable,” commented one frustrated user. Others reported that they hadn't been able to buy gas since last year and that appointments on the Ticket app weren't moving forward. Despite the many promises, a large portion of the population still doesn't have access to LPG.
On May 27, the director of the Territorial Fuel Marketing Division, Lisset González, guaranteed "7.500 percent coverage" and detailed the use of digital appointments through Ticket. The figures were optimistic: XNUMX tickets per day for Santiago de Cuba alone, divided into two batches. But reality has contradicted that plan.
Meanwhile, the official press tries to show another side. The newspaper Granma On Tuesday, the company published a note highlighting the efforts of the workers responsible for filling and transporting the gas, without acknowledging the failure to meet their commitments. Phrases like "we can't stop" or "we must put it where it's really needed" contrast with the widespread anger on social media.
Several citizens noted that, while they appreciate the use of communication channels like Telegram, the lack of transparency and broken promises have undermined trust. Others directly accused the state press of being complicit in misinformation, while people continue to struggle with lines, uncertainty, and improvised solutions like coal or firewood.
The LPG distribution had begun after late payment for a ship that remained stranded in the port of Santiago for weeks. From there, the cargo was also sent to Havana and Camagüey. Despite this logistical effort, a sustained supply has not been guaranteed.
