Learn about the Cuban Customs rules and price list for importing household appliances. Discover the most affordable equipment.
Resolution 175/2022 of the General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba contains the list of reference values for non-commercial imports made by individuals by any means.
The regulation, which repeals three previous regulations, serves as a guide for travelers visiting the island to understand the main requirements when packing their luggage.
In order to determine the reference value of a product, Cuban Customs has established a price list for certain items, based on their units of measurement (unit, set, kit, coil, or reel), weight (kilogram), dimensions (meter, square meter), and volume (liter, cubic meter).
In this article, we'll tell you the rules you should know about importing household appliances to Cuba and which are the cheapest items in this category.
General rules for bringing household appliances to Cuba
For household appliances, computer and communications equipment, and other durable goods, customs valuation is carried out using the customs declaration, purchase invoice, or reference value.
However, the individual may request a specific valuation, in which case customs will assess whether it is based on weight. In this case, the equipment must be presented separately from miscellaneous items. If they are together in the same baggage or shipment, the customs authority may apply the valuation to the weight and deduct the weight of the packaging.
Customs allows the importation of household appliances, provided they are varied. Up to two (2) items of the same type may be imported, provided their combined value does not exceed the limit established for the import operation (luggage, shipments, etc.). In the case of power plants, up to two (2) units are also permitted.
