How much does it cost to import a vehicle to Cuba? Customs rules and fees

Since Decree 119/2024 came into force, the importation of vehicles into Cuba has been the subject of numerous inquiries from citizens both inside and outside the country. 

Although the types of vehicles allowed have been made more flexible, it is important to clarify that individuals cannot import vehicles directly, but rather through importing entities authorized by the State.

What vehicles can be imported into Cuba?

According to the Cuban government, the following vehicles are currently permitted for importation:

  • Electric, hybrid, or internal combustion mopeds and motorcycles with a displacement of up to 250 cc, new or used (with a maximum age of 10 years).
  • Electric or hybrid tricycles with a capacity of more than two seats.
  • Light trailers up to 750 kilograms.
  • Additionally, certain specific groups, such as diplomats, Cuban officials on state missions, and international collaborators, may import a one-time economy or midsize car up to 10 years old, provided they meet established requirements, such as at least two consecutive years of mission abroad.

Who can import vehicles into Cuba?

  • Cuban natural persons and foreign permanent residents.
  • Cuban non-state legal entities.
  • Foreign legal entities with commercial representation or investment in the country.
  • Authorized marketing entities.
  • Diplomatic missions, consular offices and international organizations, under specific regulations

How much does it cost to import a vehicle? Current Cuban Customs fees 

The General Customs Office of the Republic of Cuba published in January 2025 Official rates for tariffs and service taxes applicable to the import of mopeds, motorcycles, and tricycles, depending on the type of operation.

Motorcycle without sidecar (up to 250 cc)

  • Tariff: 46 USD
  • Services: 8 USD
  • Total to pay: 54 USD

Electric or hybrid tricycle

  • Tariff: 22 USD
  • Services: 8 USD
  • Total to pay: 30 USD

Importation by international shipping

Motorcycle with sidecar (up to 250 cc)

  1. That is not the solution, what makes it worse is, for example, you go to a state establishment and buy a product for 250 Cup and you pay them that coin, they will surely tell you I don't have change, so the customer leaves irritated and the entity loses for not selling.🤔.
