The Attorney General's Office of the Republic of Cuba has reported on the criminal proceedings being carried out against perpetrators of acts of vandalism in Havana.
In a statement released by the Cuban capital's Transportation Company, they specify that these incidents involve passenger vehicles. "The individuals identified as the alleged perpetrators have been detained and held under provisional imprisonment, and work is currently underway to provide evidence and complete the investigation," the statement states.
According to the information provided, "the defendants threw rocks and other blunt objects, causing injuries to passengers and drivers." They also rendered the vehicles unusable by breaking windshields and doors.
"It's reasonable to assume that actions of this type could produce such results, and that such actions affect legal assets of high significance to society," the text states.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, "behavior of this nature bears no relation to the ethics, solidarity, and values that characterize our people, nor to their actions in various sectors, despite the difficulties."
In this regard, they assure that they will respect "the rights and guarantees enshrined in the Constitution and the laws," but that they will "exercise public criminal action before the courts to prosecute those responsible, requesting sanctions appropriate to the harmful nature of the acts committed, the circumstances in which they occurred, and the personal conduct of those involved."
Vandalism in Havana transportation
On March 29, the Transport Company itself reported regarding a stone-throwing incident on bus 5229, which was operating route 23 from the Lawton Terminal, near the National Museum of Fine Arts on Avenida Bélgica in Old Havana. "The report was filed with the PNR in Dragones, after the driver's left side window was damaged," they stated.
“Second time in less than a month. They have to work hard to combat this problem. Not everyone has 200 or 500 pesos for a car. We demand street surveillance,” commented one resident.
Along the same lines, someone else asked: "How long will this vandalism continue? And where are the authorities? Right now, we'll be left without buses for passenger transportation. If this continues, we'll have to walk to work right now."

B. Tardes, I agree that strong measures should be taken against these unscrupulous criminals, who have no conscience or respect for their fellow human beings, especially given the current situation we Cubans are experiencing with transportation, where salaries aren't even enough to eat and many of us who work can't afford to take a car. I reiterate that the full weight of the law should fall on these scumbags.
