The Trump administration has begun transferring immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The Trump administration on Tuesday began transferring immigrants who entered the United States illegally to the Guantanamo Bay naval base in Cuba. This measure is part of a plan to use the facility as a detention center for thousands of migrants, according to the statement. The Hill.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed the start of the flights. She also asserted that the Trump administration is taking drastic measures to curb illegal immigration. “President Trump is not playing games and will not allow the United States to be a dumping ground for illegal criminals from all over the world,” Leavitt said on Fox Business Network.
Last week, Trump signed a memorandum ordering the Department of Defense and the Department of Homeland Security to prepare a detention center with capacity for 30,000 migrants at Guantanamo Bay. This military base has been used in the past to house military prisoners, including several implicated in the September 11, 2001, attacks.
Guantanamo Bay: Trump
Guantánamo Bay is primarily known for its role as a detention center for terrorism suspects. The Biden administration attempted to scale back operations, leaving only 15 detainees at the facility. However, under Trump's new term, the base could expand its function and host a significant number of migrants awaiting deportation.
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem assured the press on "Meet the Press" that due process will be respected. She also stated that having facilities at Guantanamo Bay is an advantage for the administration. However, she declined to answer whether women and children will be sent to the base.
The Trump administration has toughened its immigration policy with bilateral agreements with Colombia, Venezuela, and El Salvador to facilitate the deportation of illegal immigrants. This strategy reinforces its zero-tolerance stance toward illegal immigration and seeks to ease pressure on the U.S. southern border.
In this regard, Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said: "The decision of the US government to imprison migrants at the Guantanamo Naval Base, in an enclave where it created centers of torture and indefinite detention, shows contempt for the human condition and International Law. They are in Cuban territory, illegally orcup“ado”.

The real killers are President Trump and all those who support him. Treating all undocumented immigrants as criminals is a racist, fascist, and inhumane stance.
