Knowing the regulations of the General Customs of the Republic will allow you to pack your luggage correctly and avoid setbacks at Cuban airports.

As a general rule, Cuban authorities allow luggage of up to 125 kg, or the equivalent of $1.000 per year. However, this amount is reduced if the passenger is carrying items such as household appliances, which have a special policy and specific tariffs. Let's take the case of televisions.

How much do televisions cost in Cuban airports?

Current laws establish that a maximum of two televisions per person may be brought into Cuba. In this case, the price varies depending on the screen size:

  • 32-inch TVs: $250.

  • Televisions between 32 and 42 inches: USD 400.

What does this mean? In addition to the cost of the television (which you paid at your place of residence), you must pay the corresponding tax to Cuban Customs for this equipment.

And do you pay in dollars or Cuban pesos?

According to Cuban Customs, the value of televisions and other household appliances is deducted from the annual limit of $1.000.
This means, for example, that if you bring a 32-inch TV, which costs $250, you would only have $750 left over for other miscellaneous items or appliances.

Furthermore, authorities report that the currency of payment depends on whether you maintain permanent residency in Cuba and whether it's your first trip of the year. Otherwise, payment to the island's Customs is made in dollars or its equivalent, which makes the equipment even more expensive.

Can you buy televisions in Cuba?

Of course. In fact, this is an option many prefer to avoid extra shipping costs and tariffs. However, many of the televisions available in Cuba are from little-known brands and are expensive.
