Why are Cubans in the US being denied family reunification? This is what's happening.

The increase in family reunification denials for Cubans with relatives in the U.S. has been making headlines in recent days.

The United States Embassy has denied several requests for family reunification to Cuban citizens, according to complaints collected by 51 Telemundo

The common denominator, according to experts consulted, lies not in crimes committed or proven affiliations with repressive structures, but in having worked for the Cuban state.

Immigration attorney Joana Soler, from the Miami law firm of renowned lawyer Willy Allen, claims to have identified at least seven recent cases of Cubans whose reunification applications were rejected for similar reasons. "We're talking about people who were doctors, teachers, nurses... workers who were simply practicing their professions in Cuba," the specialist noted.

According to the lawyer, U.S. immigration authorities are interpreting this type of employment history—in state institutions such as the Ministries of Health or Education—as evidence of alleged ties to the Communist Party or the Cuban government.

And while this assumption is not based on concrete evidence of political activism, it has been sufficient to deem the applicants inadmissible.

The situation has sparked outrage among many affected families, who have shared their stories on social media. “I am an American citizen, and my parents were denied the same response, asking for forgiveness for a supposed affiliation, just for being doctors. Another affected person, Y. de La Paz, criticized the delay and arbitrariness of the process: “For the simple reason of working in a government institution, they are denied… it's very painful.”

In this context, the expert advocates a new strategy: providing evidence demonstrating that her clients, although public employees, have not been active in politics or ideological activism. Obviously, the goal is to separate their work function from their alleged support for the Cuban government.

  1. Nothing came to light that the only interest that the United States government has always had with respect to Cuban immigration to this country is to use it as a spearhead in its subversive plans and in internal politics. Florida was a swing state in the elections, something that changes as of these elections when it moves to the Republican spectrum, so the Cuban vote no longer has any influence at all.
