Importing e-cigarettes into Cuba is a topic that raises many questions among travelers.
The General Customs of the Republic (AGR) is clear on this matter, highlighting the current regulations and the control policies on the island. Below, we explain what Cuban customs says about the entry of these devices.
Regulations on electronic cigarettes in Cuba
According to 23 2020 resolution of of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), regulates the non-commercial import and export of electronic cigarettes and similar products.
This regulation, signed by the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, establishes the limits and restrictions for bringing these devices into Cuba, even in cases where the traveler has a medical prescription for therapeutic use.
Despite international recognition of the use of e-cigarettes, Cuba maintains a strict stance, stating that these devices are harmful to human health.
According to Cuban customs, e-cigarettes can encourage the use of narcotics and drugs, an issue on which the country applies a zero-tolerance policy.
Strict prohibitions
Cuba prohibits the importation of any item related to illegal or harmful substances. This includes e-cigarettes that may incite or encourage the use of marijuana, cocaine, yagué, or any other derivative of these plants.
According to authorities, these devices still require long-term studies to determine their real health effects.
Currently, there is insufficient scientific evidence to support their use as an effective method for quitting smoking, nor do they have the approval of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Border detections and control policies
In this regard, the Villa Clara Customs Office has previously reported significant detections at the border, demonstrating the effectiveness of its control measures and its commitment to the Zero Tolerance policy.
If you plan to travel to Cuba, it's essential to keep in mind that e-cigarettes are not permitted to enter the country, regardless of the reason or use.
Cuban regulations clearly prohibit these devices and other similar products that may encourage the use of illegal or harmful substances.
