The Cuban Telecommunications Company reports on the impact and assures that its specialists are already working on a solution.
The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) reported this Thursday that a failure at the telephone exchange in the province of Pinar del Río has left approximately 60 landline telephone lines without service.
Etecsa issued a statement on its social media channels, apologizing for the inconvenience and assuring that its technical staff is working to restore service as soon as possible.
"We inform our landline customers in Pinar del Río that due to a telephone exchange outage, nearly 60 services are affected. Our specialists are working to restore them. We apologize for any inconvenience caused." published ETECSA on its official account.
The public's reaction was swift. Many users expressed their frustration and resignation at what they consider yet another example of the deterioration of telecommunications services in the country.
"What's more, the landline switchboard also failed. I thought my phone was broken. We're not getting anywhere like this," ICV commented, reflecting the initial confusion of many customers.
AAM was more critical: "I don't consider myself a client of ETECSA; I'm with you because there's no other company," he wrote. Another user, LD, said more forcefully: "Industrial civilization in Cuba is collapsing piece by piece."
Etecsa had already announced a possible collapse
This incident occurred amidst a highly controversial context. In a recent television appearance, ETECSA's president, Tania Velázquez, acknowledged that the company is facing a serious financial setback, with a 70% drop in international revenue. She explained that nearly $20 million annually is needed to maintain the current telecommunications infrastructure, a figure that is currently difficult to obtain.
"We have foreseen that at some point there may be a widespread failure [...] even general ones that would prevent us from maintaining and, above all, guaranteeing our country's telecommunications system," Velázquez warned.
Meanwhile, customers inside and outside Pinar del Río are reporting similar problems in other regions, questioning the company's transparency and effectiveness in handling these situations. Although some comments were sarcastic or downright offensive, many users insisted that ETECSA must offer clearer explanations and effective solutions in the short term.

They charge more for the Internet, and communications are very poor every day, but the GBs are like Juan Torena in his heyday. They should communicate the situation and lower the price of data. Seniors who use communications.
It still remains a mystery as to where the company's income was diverted over all these years from international recharges promoted by the company itself and that reach each user, where according to the director herself they did not enter through the entity's channels, it is worth asking who is going to be prosecuted for diverting these resources (USD)? How is it possible that the director allowed this and did not report it? What are the economic people of ETECSA doing? What is the comptroller's office doing? Why do the users, who are the people, have to assume the mismanagement of these finances and pay for what someone else diverted to other purposes? Why is this company not audited and how do the directors still remain in office despite this disaster? This is not clear and an alleged justification has been given, as the program says, "Tell someone else that story."
It was known that this was going to happen to the people, it is not possible, of course they are not going to recharge from abroad, they planned to continue abusing these people who are the ones who have kept them in power until when the abuse because if they recharge my mobile with 500cup I can no longer recharge because it has to be from abroad to use those dollars on whatever they please. I don't understand anything, but I do understand that this town is tired of so much abuse.
and who makes the millions he collects by offering poor quality services and charging for them as excellent, do not respond, we know that they are in the pockets of the military, among them Marrero, Raúl and their families
A disappointment and theft... restrictions on telephones... absurd international top-up prices. So much reorganization in the country. Trying to unify currencies... and they come out with the creation of new informal foreign exchange markets. Today, telephone balance has reached absurd prices in the informal market, further restricting the economy, which is already reeling from annoying blackouts... workplaces and businesses on a complete shutdown. Because of these, agriculture is unable to produce, since they can't even irrigate their fields and crops properly. Even so, thousands of people who pay a telephone rate that should be for 30 or 35 days can only use it or use it for about 10 days, accumulating hours... My example is in the town of Floro Pérez in the province of Holguín, with more than 4000 users. In the month of May, we only used the service in accumulated hours for around 13 business days. That is, the rest of the time it was out of service due to the blackouts, both landline and mobile telephones were out of service. Calling an ambulance for an emergency requires leaving town to call an ambulance, praying for the patient's survival.
Etecsa always apologizes but no solutions. Today they report landline telephone problems, but this has been going on for a while. On 19 de Mayo between Ayestaran and Almendares, there is an entire block without a telephone for months without Etecsa providing a solution.
A question, I live in Río Verde Boyeros and both the signal and coverage in this area are poor, on the 13th my sister recharged me with the ETECSA offer and supposedly from 12am to 7am I have free Internet service, which I have not been able to take advantage of due to poor connectivity. Can you give us an answer? The antenna that provides service is in the Río Verde neighborhood, supposedly it is "new" it was installed in July of last year and a month and a half after it was put into service I don't know what happened but the signal doesn't come in well and to top it off when the power goes out we are completely cut off, something that shouldn't happen. Awaiting your response, thank you.

In the good Cuban ETECSA you have fallen into slump, look for a dove, a black hen, when the bad comes they all come together, look how it is UNE
I better not say anything because it would be infantry
I'd better not say anything 😔
Good morning, the Cuban government together with the national management of ETECSA has taken wrong measures, the more they squeeze, the less they have, don't they realize that by wanting to collect and keep more money from foreign top-ups, the less they will have, because we are even less willing to sustain this abuse, so ETECSA does not advance, where are the financial backers of this company who do not think or reason?
Also, very good question,
And still, they don't care about any opinion, neither for nor against, so inept and incapable of thinking!!!
I'm from Havana and have had landline service for a year and two months. There are a few of us who haven't had that service for that long. ETECSA's response was due to cable problems. And we're still waiting.
I've had the same situation since December, and they always say it's a cable problem, but when will that be resolved? I'm from Havana, I think it's disrespectful.
The thing is easy, to pay more for less quality in services, which is normal in this failed system
I hope to fix all the problems in my country, which is an island, and they also exist, as you know, professionals, at the forefront, and support the teachers, who are and will always be an example, YOU ALSO KNOW IT
It's not just landlines, Internet communications are getting worse every day and megabytes are going like water.
It's true that ETECSA has problems, but I don't know why those who have never had one and didn't know what a telephone was get upset. What do they do to prevent this from happening? The only thing they do is criticize and offend the leaders. Review each one to see if they have their feet on the ground or on the moon.
Let everyone express themselves at the moment they want and how they want, always with respect, don't you think?
Hello ETECSA, now I have just lost 126 gigabytes of data thanks to you, do you really think that someone would like to lose this, I could tell you so many things, for example this tariff as people say, I could understand it in some way, also if you change the rates for the worse, why if I have bought from you all the time and it is my package, why did you take it away from me, it is mine, but of course it does not suit you, the thing is that I could not buy another package because I did not have a connection where I was,
Thank you for working thinking only of yourselves and not of this brave people who suffer every day for their great ideas. I hope one of you can read my message. Thank you.
